For the past few releases this series has got lower and lower scores. Spyro has a lot to prove with this release - and by the looks of it, The Legend of Spyro could turn the series around. Backed up by Hollywood talents such as Elijah Wood as the voice of Spyro, and David Spade as the voice of Sparx, it tells the story of Spyro’s roots.
The fast-paced, combat-heavy gameplay we have come to expect from Spyro titles will be present, along with colourful characters and levels. Spyro will have a handful of devastating attacks, including upgradeable breath attacks and ground-to-air combos. The dragon upgrade system is similar to those seen in a number of western RPGs, where players can upgrade attack stats to suit their style.
Krome Studios (Ty the Tasmanian Tiger) have their work cut out for them in bringing this series back from the brink of mediocrity, and it will take more than Hollywood talent to do this. However, things are looking promising for the little purple dragon. The Legend of Spyro could turn the series around from the forgettable platformer it has become in recent instalments.
