Activision have released the E3 trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, the videogame that is set to be released alongside the upcoming film of the same name.

Bring Spider-Man's free-roaming, web-slinging action back to New York City. Players take on the role of a young Peter Parker discovering his new Spider-Man powers and added Super Hero responsibilities, using the game's innovative Web Rush mechanic to swing freely around Manhattan, combat a variety of criminal activities and take on classic Marvel Super Villains.

Set against an original story that takes place entirely after the events of the upcoming feature film, The Amazing Spider-Man video game delivers a brand-new, immersive and cinematic adventure allowing players to truly harness the power of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

The Amazing Spider-Man is set to be released on June 29th on PlayStation 3, PC, Wii, 3DS and DS.

NZGamer.com appears at E3 2012 thanks to Orcon Broadband.

Please don't rage at me for asking this question.

Sony has the rights to Spider-Man.

I think this might be a miss, never really been into movie -> games, they just rely to heavily on IP & shiny gfx but tend to have no real substance. I like my games to have some gaming in them

GASP! Marvel fanboys would kill you for such blasphemy, Ron! Haha.

As AshPuppet said, Sony own the film rights. Basically film ownership looks like this for Marvel:

Marvel/Disney films - Everything Marvel not owned by the other studios
Sony - Spider-Man / Ghost Rider
Fox - X-Men / Fantastic 4 / Daredevil

Lionsgate and New Line had shares in Punisher and Blade respectively, but these rights have since reverted to Marvel.
There's also some weird convoluted ownership of some characters here and there, but for the most part, ownership is slowly returning to Marvel, and hopefully they get those other franchises back soon.

ON TO THE GAME THOUGH! Even with how the last few Spidey games have faired, I still want to play this. I miss the freeroaming of Spidey 2/3, so am looking forward to this!

The new, tighter camera angle was a great idea; the web-swinging seems way more more immersive like the bat-gliding in Arkham City. Be interesting to see how it holds up in combat especially when dealing with multiple opponents.

I'm hoping that it'll take a leaf out of Batman:AC and completely change what has become a flagging franchise.

From the demos they showed at E3, the combat looks to be taking a page out of Batman: AC's playbook. With it mostly boiling down to an attack and counter button with a lot of cool animations.

The animation transitions didn't seem all that smooth, but from a gameplay standpoint, this seems like the right move to me. Definitely keen to see if this is finally the Spider-Man game we've been waiting for.
