Capcom have announced a collaboration with Mamoru Oshii, the award winning director behind "Ghost in the Shell" and "Avalon". Oshii has created a short, live action film to tie in with the upcoming release of Steel Battalion Heavy Armor videogame in June.

The short will be released online before the game is available in stores, on June 22nd.

If you aren't aware of the game this new film is based on, here's a description from today's press release:

Set in 2082, Steel Battalion Heavy Armor depicts a world devoid of computers, where war is waged with rudimentary weapons as new superpowers struggle for dominance. In this low-tech era there is one weapon class that will determine the course of the war -- the Vertical Tank. Players take on the role of VT pilot Sgt. Powers as the battle to regain the United States from Chinese occupation begins.

A simulation-heavy title, the game - which is exclusive to Xbox 360 - includes deep Kinect integration, allowing players to take full control of their vertical tanks by using a combination of traditional (controller-based) and gesture (using Kinect) input. It's the sequel to an Xbox game from 2004, which featured a multi-stick, 40-button custom controller, and, as a result, is very hard to come by today.
