Armageddon 2011 in Pictures

Armageddon's 4-day spectacular captured on film

This past weekend Auckland hosted the pop-culture extravaganza that is the Armageddon 2011 Expo. Happening at the ASB Showgrounds, this year was filled comics, costumes, sci-fi, tv shows, movies, toys, and of course - gaming. It's still going today, matter-of-fact, so if you haven't gotten along yet there's still time to do so.

The gaming presence was much bigger than in previous years. There was a lot of floor space provided for gamers, with plenty of great titles to see and play.

If you are a nerd, geek, comic lover [oooh-er - Ed.], gamer, or general enthusiast, Armageddon was the perfect place to celebrate yourself and the awesome culture that you love. I was actually surprised at the amount of truly amazing costumes people turned up in - it was a great effort!

The highlight for me was the Red vs Blue panel and meeting some of the guys behind the show. I also bought myself a Sonic Screwdriver, so guess who I’m going to dress up as for the next costume party I go to, huh?

Here are some pictures I managed to snap of the show - enjoy!

Batman & Flash are always vigilant, watching over the people… or on a coffee break, whatever.

I just want to know what he’s staring at.

I flashed these guys just to see if they’d noticed anything other than their screens… they didn’t.

Not that you can tell here, but Uncharted 3 looks awesome, trust me.

There are few things better than seeing a grown man having a dance off in his PJs.

Yup, this happened.

Fortunately, this also happened.

I have a Spartan to protect me. Do you have a Spartan to protect you?

It wouldn’t be a pop-culture expo without Darth. And check out mini-Spiderman with Leia!

There were some pretty awesome rides present this year! Although, this one you couldn’t get me on with a dare.

This guy was the villain in the male soap opera show that is wrestling, this year.

The main stage where panels were happening throughout the show. I checked out the Red vs Blue panel, which was awesome!

Some intense Battlefield 3 matches were going on. Again, I flashed them and… nothing.

If you’ve seen the anime Sprited Away you know how awesome this is. And if you haven’t, you really should!

He looks normal, but that guy does the voice of Caboose from Red vs Blue, super cool guy! On a side note, as you can see, my partner was very happy she got to meet & hug him, and happy girlfriend = happy me.

Not sure why they are looking at the games instead of playing them. Odd behaviour if you ask me.

Sony put on quite the show with awesome games and a DJ for their space playing some awesome tunes.

Meanwhile Microsoft has a huge space to show off plenty of Kinect games.

How awesome is that! EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE!!

Mario & Luigi were there. Sadly their princess was in another expo.

So did you go to the show this year? What did you think, what were your highlights of the show and what was your biggest “geek-out” moment? Mine was seeing an old-school Transformers toy, one of the original ones that were made out of steel! Sadly it was $150, which is just a bit too much for my wallet at the moment.

Factoid about the RvB panel that day: Hato-Kun got to film for those guys. What a class act!

As for me, my work there was golden as, and fun. So yeah, I really enjoyed it!

I was there as an attraction.

Thought the event was much better than recent years. I realise alot of people were disappointed with the "celebrity" turn out, but as far as the expo was concerned: there were less $2 shops every where, and seemingly more "pop-culture" stuff. Which was a nice return to it's roots.

If I had emotions I would have been sad. Or angry. I dunno, something like that.

I was there only for Saturday & Sunday, but had an awesome time. It was my first public outing & troop in my Star Wars Clone Wars animated grunt clonetrooper. I was there with members of the 501st Legion's - Outpost 42 Garrison.
