Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter

Published Sunday 16 Jul 2006 10:22pm | Xbox 360

9/10

First up I have to say how enjoyable this game has been, and how good it looks.

Visuals:
If you have a HDTV, LCD or even a computer monitor then hook your xbox360 up with this game, the detail is great. To give you an example on PC Monitor at 720p when you look at the soldiers bags you can clearly see their names. But on a normal TV when you look at the soldiers bags it is much more fuzzy and harder to make their names out. You can tell the visual quality of this game up close and far away. That said I did find that the screen kind of jerks a little as you look around, and it takes a little while to get used to the way your charactor moves with footstep like motion which times into the screen movement. But all in all these small matters do not have a huge impact on what are otherwise next gen looks even on a standard TV.

Story:
The storyline for the game is basic but well thought out. It keeps you interested in the games and wanting to move forward to the next part. It does tend to be a bit cheesy and America saves the worldish, but then it is based on the American Army I guess.

Sound:
For this type of game the soundtrack is very good. It is quiet in quiet moments and the music increases in tempo and volume when you are in actions scenes or finish an objective. The sound effects for the weapons have a good sound and the positioning of the sounds around you works well. The ambient sounds work very well and make you think where is that sound coming from, or you hear the sound of a baby crying down the streets, great stuff.

Multiplayer/Live:
Works a charm lots of modes and keeps a good connection to the servers in the States, and the voice is clear throughout.

Xbox Live Demo:
One thing I noticed from the xbox Live Demo and the full retail version of this game was the difference in detail in the single player mode. In the demo there are only a few men around and not a whole lot is happening. The same level in the retail version has much more going on, much more interesting, and HARD.

Overall:
This game has some minor flaws but overall it is a great xbox360 title. It really doesn't seem like it should be a launch title, there is too much detail and the game is just too much more advanced for a first generation title, very promising for the future. If you want a game to show off what the xbox360 can do this is it, playing it in High Definition .... a dream, enjoy it.

Overall:
