Rayman has been one of Ubisoft’s best selling series since debuting on the PS1 and Saturn. In this latest installment, Rayman takes a step away from his traditional platforming roots and head to Mario Party territory with 80 party games utilizing the wiimote.
As the title suggests, the villains are invading bunnies, or “Rabbids”. The games will be tied into the storyline, taking the form of tasks Rayman has to do to please the rabbids. They vary from FPS games to races, all utilizing the wiimote and the nunchuk in every possible way.
Raving Rabbids will do for the wiimote what Sonic Team’s Project Rub did for the DS: namely, show people the level of interactivity the system can provide without needing to wow gamers with huge worlds or giant bosses.
Since Rayman has made the switch from platform game to party game, it might be interesting to see how a full-on Rayman adventure would play with the wiimote. A Rayman platformer probably isn’t far away. As it stands though, Raving Rabbids will no doubt show us what the wiimote can do for a wide variety of gameplay styles.
The Good: A game making full use of the wiimote.
The Bad: Another Mario party clone.
The Ugly: Rabbids taking over the world.
