AT A GLANCE
| The Good: A flashy Dragon ball Z fighter. | "Fighting fans will be lining up on launch day." |
| The Bad: An over-milked license | |
| The Ugly: Goku’s fashion sense. |
Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi 2 marks the franchise’s next generation debut as a launch title for Nintendo Wii. How this title will utilize the Wii’s unique controller is one of the more interesting aspects of it. You’ll be waving your arms around mimicking attacks of the characters - how you do kicks, though, is anyone’s guess. Unfortunately, anyone isn’t here right now.
This installment will have the biggest roster ever seen in a DBZ title, with over 100 characters from Dragon Ball, Z, and GT present - many of whom are making their video game debut - and 15 areas to fight in. The large roster will allow fans to recreate the battles from the anime, or come up with original rivalries.
Players will be able to make characters that have multiple forms (such as Goku and Cell's transformations in real time at the push of a button) without the long combos needed in the previous titles.
Developer Spike has recreated the entire Dragon Ball story in Tenkaichi 2. Spanning all three series’, the story mode will be the biggest seen in a DBZ title, or even in any fighting game. There is a down side to a huge roster however, as often fighting games will spread moves across a lot of characters, resulting in 50 characters with the same moves. Even games with smaller rosters had multiple characters with similar move sets; I’m looking at you, Mortal Kombat.
Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi 2 may be what fighting and Dragon Ball Z fans will be lining up for on launch day.
