If you were underwhelmed by the performance of The Witcher 3 on Xbox One, and don’t have a PC that’s up to the task, this recent find (via NX Gamer) might interest you. An unpatched version of the game running on Xbox One X will run at 60 frames per second.
As Eurogamer points out, The Witcher 3 shipped on console with an uncapped framerate; because none of the systems were up to the task, you never saw the game hit over 30. Now you can see what the extra horsepower of the One X brings.
One consideration however is a loss in resolution. On Xbox One, the game launched at 1600x900. It wasn’t until a later patch that the internal resolution was bumped up to 1080p. Highly populated areas like Novigrad and the swamps or Crookback still present problems too, as the game struggles to maintain that 60FPS.
Unpatched, you’ll also be missing out on quality-of-life improvements, access to expansions, and 4K visuals.
