StarCraft II is going free-to-play. Blizzard’s real-time strategy title will open up sections of its campaign and multiplayer on November 15.

Here’s what you’ll get access to:

  • The Wings of Liberty campaign
  • Ranked ladder matches, including all the latest units and balance updates
  • Expanded access to co-op mode, with all Commanders playable for free.

If players have purchased any version of StarCraft II prior to November 1, 2017, they’ll receive a special Eidolon Ghost skin, and three portraits commemorating their founder status.

Just one thing on the Co-op commanders. Artanis, Raynor and Kerrigan are free and can be leveled up normally the rest are free up to level 5 but you then need to purchase them to unlock the rest of their abilities. Still a nice way of doing it and let people test the commanders before deciding if they want them or not and hopefully I can get more people playing it with me as I do love the co-op mode.

So the other two expansions still need to be purchased to play? I’m ok with that... :) At least it gives gamers a good appetiser before they decide if they want a main course and dessert...
