Nintendo 2DS XL Announced

Runtime: 1:55    Author: NintendoAU    Category: Trailers

Nintendo announced over the weekend the 2DS XL – a handheld said to give “consumers a new choice that fits between the Nintendo 2DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL systyems.” It’s set to launch on June 15 for a recommended retail price of $199.95 AUD (approximately $220 NZD).

From the press release:

The new, clamshell-design system will be available in a stylish black/turquoise colour, as well as in white/orange, and will use the same size large screen found on New Nintendo 3DS XL systems. As the name of the new system implies, visuals will be displayed in 2D only. The system is lighter but still packs the same power as New Nintendo 3DS XL, and has built-in NFC support for amiibo cards and figures.

Is the 2DS XL’s price-point and design enough to make you want to pick one up? Or are you already happy with your 3DS? Let us know in the comments below!

So much so they keep flogging the ground where a horse carcass used to be.

They are filling a niche market that doesn't quite exist. Still, they do look nice. I'd honestly pick this over a 3dsxl I never use the 3d anyway.

LOL Nintendo are weird?! They cancel the wildly popular NES Classic because they apparently "don't have unlimited resources" (or apparently don't like printing money??) but then they turn around and produce a more expensive 2DS!? Who was asking for this?

Does this mean that 3D is becoming death?

Is it a more expensive 2DS or a less expensive 3DS?

Don't really get it. Isn't there enough 2DS and 3DS's out there? Obviously not.
Should just focus everything on Switch. The handheld market is already sewn up by them or are they just doing the mobile phone market thing and bringing out new handheld hardware every 1-2 years?

I really like my 3ds. Unfortunately the games are priced too expensive for the NZ market so that really kills the handheld here otherwise I find its brilliant. The mobile game market is bigger here which is disappointing as the 3ds/2ds games are really good. It's only a niche market in NZ. You'll find its more popular in other countries.
