Wonder Boy III Remake Gets Release Date

Runtime: 1:08    Author: DotEmu    Category: Trailers

If you’re looking for a bit of a nostalgia hit, Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap has been given a release date from publisher DotEmu. The action-platformer is a remake of the 1989 game Wonder Boy III, originally released for the Sega Master System.

From the press release:

Boasting beautiful, hand-drawn animations and a re-orchestrated soundtrack, the cult classic returns with a unique blend of exploration, action, and adventure. Play as Lizard-Man, Mouse-Man, Piranha-Man, Lion-Man, and Hawk-Man, and use their unique abilities to uncover the land’s deepest secrets. Switch in real-time between the original retro graphics and the visually stunning modern remake, and input your old Sega Master System passcode to unlock all of your old saves and progression – just how you left them in 1989.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap launches on April 18 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch. The PC version is slated for an autumn release. We’ll update this article if the New Zealand release date differs.

Awesome sauce. Completely forgot about this, thanks for the reminder! Onr of the best ever games on the old Master System, will bring back a lot of very fond memories from my childhood. The passcodes is a very cool feature, I wonder if anyone out there still actually has any of their saves written down.

Haha yes! DEKA! Wow that would be where I picked up my Sega Mega Drive 2 and a copy of Street Fighter 2 and a 6 button controller at the height of it's glory, god knows how much the console cost but I remember the Street Fighter cartridge cost $130, and the 6 button was around the same. We have it pretty good with the prices we pay these days compared to how it used to be.

I remember Mortal Kombat 2 was the first game I ever bought with my own money. I saved for ages.

I also used to religiously go to Farmers before I owned the console and play the Sega they had set up.

About the game though, I'm excited for this and I definitely grab for the Switch to play on the go.

Super stuff, will definitely be getting this.

Best part is, I know I have a bunch of save passwords written down in an old diary.

It would be epic for Golden Axe , Alex Kidd and Gain Ground to have this treatment.
