UPDATE: The latest update is now live for Pokemon Go -- giving players access to new Gold/Silver monsters. Good luck out there!
Original story follows:
Niantic is looking to add some significant new content to Pokemon Go this week. The augmented reality monster-catching hit will add 80 new creatures from the Gold and Silver versions of the game. New mechanics are also being introduced, in the form of berries.
Here’s the rundown from the developer:
While catching Pokémon, Trainers can use two new Berries—the Nanab Berry, which slows a Pokémon’s movements, and the Pinap Berry, which doubles the amount of Candy received if the next catch attempt succeeds. Trainers will also be able to customize their avatar’s appearance with a new selection of hats, shirts, pants, and other items. Additional items will be available for purchase from the in-game Pokémon GO shop.
As Kotaku points out, it’s unlikely that any Gold/Silver legendries will be made available, as even original creatures like Mewtwo still can't be found. The update does mean however that you’ll be able to evolve all of your Zubats into Crobats.
It’s unclear exactly when the update will drop this week. We’ll update you when we hear more.
