Pokemon Go Players Have Caught Over 88 Billion Creatures

Runtime: 0:30    Author: pokemongo    Category: Featurette

Developer Niantic haver released some interesting data for Pokemon Go – their augmented reality, monster catching hit. The stats are impressive, to say the least.

From the official announcement:

We are pleased to share that—as of December 7—the Pokémon GO community has collectively walked more than 8.7 billion kilometers. That’s more than 200,000 trips around Earth! Fun fact: A commercial jetliner would take more than 1,000 years to cover the same distance. While covering this distance, Trainers also caught more than 88 billion Pokémon along the way. That’s roughly 533 million Pokémon a day!

Pokemon Go is currently celebrating the festive season. Players have until December 30, 7AM NZT to capture a limited edition Pikachu sporting a Santa hat.

And I bet 87 billion of them are Pidgeys and Rattatas, haha. Seriously, can barely move without those buggers popping up everywhere.

My wife has a Samsung galaxy s5 mini and her phone is the same. Not the latest phone but not rubbish either. Plenty of lower spec phones that don't have a problem with it. I have to download the apk for it when they come out and do it that way. Really weird.

Have you tried downloading the apk instead of going through the Google Play store?

You're not alone, I suppose to have this game on my Asian Import phone, game worked fine but............................................
The phone has no Gyroscope so using the live environmental capture feature (which is like the main reason for the game) isn't compatible with the game, so I gave up on it a long time ago, and same here with the S3, still works well for pretty much everything else being released.

Christmas has come to Pokemon Go! Free 1-use incubators, one per day from first Pokestop spin, over the Christmas season, to help catch the new pokemon. Also increased sightings of "Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur, as well as Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard, plus Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise!" Whoop whoop! Merry Christmas all!

Would be interesting to see how many of the accounts made at launch are still active and how many of those inactive accounts make up that 88 billion

Pokemon Go for iPhone is still in the Top 10 (10th place) for Top Grossing. So I guess enough users in NZ are still using the game to make them profit.
