Watch the First-Person Prototype of Until Dawn

Runtime: 42:23    Author: ptoponline    Category: Game Footage

Until Dawn – the teen-horror adventure game for PlayStation 4 – started its life as a very different thing. The game was originally slated for the PlayStation 3, and would control in first-person via Sony’s PlayStation Move wands.

Videogame historian and YouTuber PtoPOnline recovered footage of an early build of the game, which you can watch above. Note that this was before any of the big-name actors like Rami Malek, Peter Stormare, or Hayden Panettiere signed on.

The game’s first trailer – which debuted at Gamescom in 2012 – shows some of that first-person perspective, but at a later stage of development.

The game then went quiet until it released in August 2015. Bronwyn reviewed the game, scoring it a 9/10. She praised its horror elements, and choice-and-consequence gameplay.

Would have made for a very different game. I kind of want to play it, but not at the cost of the Until Dawn we got.

Looks interesting, so happy thought the game didn't go this planned route, because Until Dawn, how it is now was an awesome game and I really loved it, this prototype though looks like it would work well as a VR game, who knows, maybe they'll revive this concept and make a VR title spinoff.

Another spin off you mean. :p but I agree, I was thinking that watching it. They'd just need to get the movement done right. Not sure how well a navigation controller would work when it comes to motion sickness.

It's weird to think of what could have happened. I wonder who the voice actors were.

Pleased it turned out third person, much better for cinematic camera in my opinion. One of the standout PS4 games for me so far, hope they make a sequel!
