Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice – the upcoming action game from British developer Ninja Theory – has been delayed to 2017. The game features a Viking hero as she undertakes a journey through a hellish underworld. Mental illness plays a large part of the game’s design, with environments changing to reflect Senua’s mind.
In an update video – which can be seen above – the developer gave some reasons as to the delay. One of them was due to the cancellation of another project which negatively affected the team’s progress. The other was a collaboration with Epic Games to developer some new motion-capture technology.
Ninja Theory are internally publishing the game. “It may seem like Hellblade is taking a long time to create,” said a member of the studio in the video. “This is because we chose to announce the game right at the beginning of development to bring you on this journey with us.”
“If we had chose [sic] the usual publisher approach, we'd be announcing the game around now,” he added.
