No Man’s Sky Gets Huge Update, Introduces Base Building

Runtime: 6:31    Author: HelloGamesTube    Category: Trailers

No Man’s Sky – the space exploration game from developer Hello Games – has received a substantial update on PlayStation 4 today. Titled the Foundation Update, it adds three different games modes, new tech to create, and a base building feature.

You can watch what the patch has to offer in the video above. Here are some of the biggest additions, via Polygon:

  • Three game modes: normal, creative, and survival.
  • Home bases
  • Farming
  • Buildable save points
  • Messages for other players at termials
  • Freighters, which can be bought and manned by NPCs for extra storage
  • A streamlined quick menu
  • Photo mode for PS4 version, bug fixes, and visual improvements

The release of this patch breaks the developer’s radio silence since No Man’s Sky dropped in August. Critical reception to the game was tepid, while some fans felt the game lacked features that were heavily advertised. The game is currently under investigation form the UK Advertising Standards Authority due to such claims.

Developer Sean Murray had this to say on Twitter:

The Foundation Update is currently available to download on PlayStation 4. No news on when it will arrive for PC.

Looks like a first step but I just feel it's a little too late. I imagine most people like myself have moved on and aren't going to return. I also think the name has already been tainted for new players to come back.

Keen to go back now that the silly season is almost over, it might have to wait until I'm done with Last Guardian though.

Such a classy response from Hello Games, after all the bullsh*t they've been through.

Some of the features are like Minecraft - would think a lot of people have now moved on.

Il think il stay with modded Skyrim for now, it has base building and Inigo. If you consider paying and getting "free" games, i got it free!
I heard one of their team left to work on Star Citizen.

That would be interesting. I think it would work pretty well.
