The world premiere of Injustice 2’s gameplay was shown on stage at the ESL Mortal Kombat tournaments by MK Co-creator, Ed Boon. Announced a few weeks back, the sequel to 2013's Injustice: Gods Among Us is scheduled to release sometime in 2017 on Xbox One and Playstation 4.
Showcasing characters like Supergirl, Aquaman, Gorilla Grodd, and Red Lanterns duo Atrocitus and Dex-Starr, the footage also displays a number of the unlockable upgrade options for the characters to go along with the title’s tagline, “Every battle defines you”.
During their E3 coverage, IGN showed off 15 minutes of Injustice 2 gameplay running in 1080p at 60 fps. Those battles included Supergirl vs. Atrocitus, then Gorilla Grodd vs. Superman in the underwater city of Atlantis; Batman vs. Aquaman in Metropolis, and finally Supergirl vs. Batman in Gotham City. This gameplay also gave us a look at how xp works, with battles will providing experience points, resulting in increased player, or character levels over time, unlocking additional types of armour you can apply to your characters.
Armour upgrades were also given some screen time. Audiences were given a look at a few types, like Aquaman’s Ocean King’s Rage: a Legendary weapon upgrade that increase the underwater lords Trident damage by 4.78% when under 1.00% Health; Batman’s Rare Gauntlets of Gotham: armor for the vigilante's arms which provide a 4.71% damage increase for Environmental Interactions, along with a number of options for Supergirl.
Injustice 2 is set to release in 2017 next year for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
