At the 2015 Square Enix Press Conference, Yosuke Saito made the announcement that the company will team with developers PlatinumGames to produce Nier New Project.
The trailer details the game's artwork, giving insight on where the project is heading visually. The animated images display a painted aesthetic, and feature scenery devoid of living things, with much of the world is in a state of disrepair. There are two characters glimpsed, however. In a shot of a ruined city, a small boy is overlooking the wreckage. A girl wielding a sword stands in a forest, and is then shown leaping into frame with a close up of her eye concluding the trailer.
While the trailer is merely meant as a tease of the artwork, it also detailed the key members of the creative team. Saito himself acts has producer, having previously worked on Dragon Quest X and the original NIER. Akihiko Yoshida will handle character design, with his work in this field on the upcoming Bravely Second as well as Final Fantasy XIV highlighted. Metal Gear Rising Game Designer Takahisa Taura will take the same role on Nier New Project, giving an indicator of potential gameplay elements. Director of the first NIER, Yoko Taro, returns to the franchise, as does composer Keiichi Okabe, whose credits also include TEKKEN 6.
The game's official press release, courtesy of Square Enix, states that PlatinumGames will amplify the action for Nier New Project, and utilise the full power of the Playstation 4 console.
Nier New Project is in early development exclusively for Playstation 4. The trailer promises new information in Spring 2015, which will likely be unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Games Show in September.
