There's no shortage of anticipation for next year's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but to help whet the appetites of fans, CD Projekt Red have put out a developer diary video called "Travelling Monster Hunter."
The clip is five minutes long, and covers everything from exploring the world to interactions with non-player characters and combat.
The Witcher 3 will have an expansive world dotted with points of interest, each of which has its own backstory, challenges, and rewards. To aid in traversing the map, the main character, Geralt, can summon a horse at almost any time, and has access to a boat to cross rivers and seas.
"When developing The Witcher, one of the intentions was to create a world that is as similar to real life as possible. That's why we've created a complex community system, which is growing with the player and the storyline" said Monika Gliniecka, quality assurance specialist, before explaining that the game's largest city, Novigrad, is home to almost 2,000 NPCs. Each of them has their own life, agenda, behaviours, and set of reactions.
"We wanted to give players the opportunity to really try what it's like being Geralt," said Peter Gelencser, senior level designer, before explaining the variety of ways in which Geralt will be able to fulfil his duties as monster hunter. "Just like in a real hunt, players can stumble upon these monsters. in many many ways. Geralt can pick up tracks and marks using his Witcher senses, villagers might complain about mysterious disappearances, or the monsters might just straight up attack him while he's roaming the wilderness."
The Witcher 3 releases for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on February 24, 2014.
