Sony Demos Destiny Remote Play on PS Vita

Runtime: 1:54    Author: PlayStation    Category: Trailers

Sony have put together a video to demonstrate the Remote Play capability built into the PlayStation 4 version of Bungie's new shooter, Destiny.

Like most PlayStation 4 games, Destiny is able to be played remotely on a PlayStation Vita system, with a control scheme designed to make the most of the handheld's features, like the touchscreen, and to account for control options that the Vita is lacking.

In the video, PlayStation Blog's Sid Shuman runs through the Remote Play controls for Destiny, and gives viewers a look at the game running on a PS Vita.

Destiny is just a few days away - it releases on September 9 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.

Just like any other game on Ps4, I tried this with the Beta, and found it very frustrating.

Felt disjointed, hard to track enemies, and the sprint/face buttons took focus away from the action.

If sony made the DS4 work natively with the Vita much like their new phones/tablets, that would make it a far more enjoyable experience.

That's not to say it didn't look beautiful scaled down for the OLED screen on mine though :)

Remote play is certainly a handy companion feature for PS4 however I prefer to play on larger screens eg 50 inch plasma.

The sony Xperia Z3 Smartphone has PS4 Remote play. You connect it to your DualShock 4 and use that to control what you see on screen. Pretty amazing! Here's some info...

I've played quite a bit of Destiny via remote play when away for the weekend and when wanting to join a friends fireteam when over his place. It works. The controls are OK, actually pretty good considering what they have to work with. But there's a sluggishness to it that makes it unplayable for anything other than the basics like Patrol / mat farming and anything you're massively OP for. You're certainly not going to solo the weekly heroic strike?? Unless you have Become Legend™!! :-)
