Runtime: 1:49    Author: destinygame    Category: Trailers

A new trailer for Bungie's highly anticipated new shooter, Destiny, gives viewers a closer look at the competitive side of the game, with a run down of different game modes.

The trailer, which debuted last night during Sony's media briefing at Gamescom, introduces the following game modes:

  • Skirmish: Small team tactics. Kill the enemy. Revive teammates.
  • Rumble: Kill everything. Watch your back.
  • Salvage: Salvage relics. Kill enemy players. Revive teammates.
  • Clash: All-out team warfare. Destroy the enemy.
  • Combined Arms: All-out team warfare with vehicles. Destroy the enemy.
  • Control: Capture zones to increase points for every kill.

The trailer also offers a look at some of the rewards and equipment that will be able to be earned through competitive multiplayer.

Destiny launches worldwide on September 9 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. For more information, read our alpha and beta previews.

It'll be interesting to see how matchmaking works, given you can level up in co-op then enter PVP.

In the beta I got to level 8 and then was matched up against other level 8s in the Crucible, despite my stats showing clearly that I'm a level 1 at best in PVP.

I had the same issues. Level 8 in terms of my character, but certainly not on the same level as others (in terms of skill and experience) when playing in the Crucible. I got absolutely destroyed!

I think they've said previously that there will be stat-based and non stat-based matches, so if you just want a raw FPS multiplayer experience without the RPG stuff, you can do that.

For me The Crucible was something like other games pvp...got to level blah blah unlocked the sniper rifle...a few matches later it was back to Shotgun as the only weapon to get me kills other than turrets or vehicles.

Oh and did anyone else notice at least one of the players in the video clip showed up as level 22....So I am thinking it's possible that your PVE level cap of 20 is separate to the PVP level cap.

In Crucible everyone is on an even playing field. Level, armour and weapon stats don't matter. Its full skill based.

However there will be events such as the Iron Banner, which will be full stat based, so my weapon is better than your weapon etc.

PVP felt so messy to me in the beta with supers, grenades and other AOE attacks going off all the time I was more than a little put off. Wth more game modes and maps opening up I'm sure I'll find something in there that's enjoyable. Good thing PVE is awesome at any rate.
