Pokemon Platinum

Published Wednesday 2 Dec 2009 7:44pm | Nintendo DS

7/10

Pokemon Platinum takes place in the Sinnoh Region, which as you may have noticed (if you have been playing the new pokemon games lately) is the same place as where Pokemon Diamond/Pearl was set. If you think D/P is going to be exactly the same as Platinum, then you are wrong.

Although in Platinum you start off with the same character and same friend you will find that the story through the game has changed a quite a bit. For instance now at the start (SPOILER AHEAD) instead of going to the lake to see the Red Gyarados, instead you will try go to Professor Rowan Lab and then just as your friend attempts to enter the grass Professor Rowan stops you and your friend and lets you choose a pokemon each (which is basically similar to Pokemon Red/Blue but instead you have a friend who goes into the grass)(SPOILER END). They also have a man named Looker and also another Team Galactic main character and much more.

The surroundings of sinnoh have changed as now it is winter. They have also added in a croagunk wallboard with a hole in it and they have also given you a villa which you can purchase items to make it look nice, the downfall is they already have set items and you can only purchase each item once. Once you have bought certain items some of the people you meet in sinnoh come and pay a visit to your villa.

In Platinum you can also capture both Dialga and Palkia, you can also get the orbs that power there moves up (Adamant and Lustrious Orbs).
Platinum still allows you to catch giratina but now you have to go into a place called the distortion world to catch him/her. Giratina also has a orb which allows him to change his form (which is basically his picture).

So to sum things up, if your a big pokemon fan you will love this game and if you finish it fast and level up a lot of pokemon to level 100, not to worry you can move on to the new Pokemon games being released next March called Pokemon Heartgold and Soulsilver.
