RB vs. GH:WT

Rock Band and I have a long history. From what began as huge anticipation, later turned to contempt when I heard the game I was looking forward to late last year... Would not be released here for a good, long time. Harmonix went from my favourite developers, to my most loathed. I closed my account at the Rock Band forum, and proceeded to throw a giant tanty any 2 year-old would be impressed by. Many a toy was thrown.

So at this stage, as dissatisfied as I may be - I was probably still going to get it. Then news of Guitar Hero: World Tour came out. Whoa, the drums looked sweet, and custom songs sounds like a potentially infinite amount of songs! This was the final nail in the coffin for Rock Band. Up yours Harmonix, I'm buying this.

Buy GHWT stupid!

You buy Guitar Hero: World Tour with it stupid!

Now with both games coming out very soon, I have a look at the prices. GHWT is $400. Sweet as. Rock Band is... Wait, $269.95?! The RRP is $319.95 and there's a $50 off special with preorders! I originally heard it was going to be something ridiculous like $420? All of a sudden Rock Band has come back into the frame. Sure, we've waited for far too long for this game. But the time we've waited, it's continued to release downloadable content. There's heaps of content there, even some Megadeth stuff! Sure, it's off one of my less-favoured albums, but beggars can't be choosers right?

Wrong. GHWT has a custom songs feature. So theoretically - this game has EVERY Megadeth song. All the expensive Rock Band downloadable content in the world can't match the fact that if Guitar Hero doesn't have a song you want... you can make it. Sure, you won't be able to play as the vocalist. That doesn't matter when a)I play Guitar and b)I don't wanna hear any of my mates sing. So when it comes to song list vs. song list, Guitar Hero wins.

Moar lolcats!

So I'm still swaying towards GH. But $269.95! At the moment RB's $150 cheaper. That's a lot of money. What do you get for the extra $150? Well, first and foremost theres the custom song creation. This is huge IMHO. I expect custom DragonForce appearing on YouTube in no time. Whether it's any good or not is a different story. Then there's the 25% bigger guitar controller. Um, don't care. Moving on. It has a touch pad that sounds a little confusing. Meh. Now, the drums. They look way cooler than RB's drums. I'm talking comparing the Fonz with Ritchie. Yeah. WAY cooler. But is that and the custom songs $150 cooler?

Well, for me they are. I can't forget the rage I felt when Harmonix snobbed me - and the chance to play with a song editor is an old dream since the original Guitar Hero come true. For a while you almost got my attention back Rock Band. But you're still fail. Booooooo.

Might have an early night guys.

"b)I don't wanna hear any of my mates sing."

Best quote ever. I gave you a 5. Every other blog got a 1 from me. All of them. Feel honoured.

Im with you in that GHWT drums look better and it is actually here on time. But to be honest I wont be using the song creator at all. "creating" music is not a high priority of mine with fisher price toys. Have fun there creating all those megadeth songs.

All being said I will get GHWT as the peripherals are backwards compatible with RB (and and it has tool) so I can just use the RB disc and go to work downloading some good stuff. If im gonna shell out for a drum kit ima make sure it will ask. And by the looks of it GHWT will

You could have gotten a way better 'fail' picture.

I never liked either of them anyway, and the last time I played Guitar hroe, everything ended up like the first 7 minutes of Elfen lied....

It wasn't pretty......

Humans are shallow. Many will take the bait of $150 saving on RB

GenocideReplyPosted by Genocide on 28 September 2008, 07:21PM
RB fails, GH WT succeeds. But both games have those stupid flawed HOPO's...

UbercuberReplyPosted by Ubercuber on 28 September 2008, 07:53PM
Ill grab the GHWT set, then maybe RB disc when its on the cheap.

arniesReplyPosted by arnies on 28 September 2008, 08:11PM
GH4 has a midi port so you can import midi when you make songs. If you can import midi through usb then you know what that means. Unlimited, custom songs!

stupidlikeafoxReplyPosted by stupidlikeafox on 29 September 2008, 08:34AM
i'll probably get the rb2 disc if its compatible with GHWT instruments, then hire rb1.

thejuror84ReplyPosted by thejuror84 on 29 September 2008, 09:37AM
only prob is if you have a 360 rb2 could be a longgg time away.Still....bring on the 12th

RuptunexReplyPosted by Ruptunex on 29 September 2008, 02:46PM
I'm getting both ^_^

stupidlikeafoxReplyPosted by stupidlikeafox on 29 September 2008, 02:59PM
i might get both too, only get the GHWT instruments though. although the rb guitar's a little interesting.

BathTubReplyPosted by BathTub on 29 September 2008, 06:27PM
You are aware it's a 3 minute & 1200 note per instrument limit on those songs right? And no copyrighted stuff. Good luck with the Megadeth recreations.

GenocideReplyPosted by Genocide on 29 September 2008, 07:26PM
What are they going to do? Download every song and make sure it isnt by an existing band? I doubt its possible to perfectly recreate existing songs anyway.

alienhominidReplyPosted by alienhominid on 29 September 2008, 07:56PM
i'll probably just rent them to see which i prefer and then get the best one. I think that maybe GH will be better as the instruments seem to be alot better than the RB ones. And the fact that RB is so late doen't help either.

RuptunexReplyPosted by Ruptunex on 30 September 2008, 04:43PM
Music creator doesn't interest me at all

stupidlikeafoxReplyPosted by stupidlikeafox on 30 September 2008, 06:42PM
3 minute limit sounds poo, but i can always do my own megadeth songs for my own purposes if worst comes to worst. plus id probably still be getting the rb disc... so win/win!

RuptunexReplyPosted by Ruptunex on 30 September 2008, 08:32PM
Agreed dude

A-T-H-nzlReplyPosted by A-T-H-nzl on 1 October 2008, 01:14PM
Ima get GH:WT because rock band has shown themselves to be to competitive. They see WT announced and they are like 'rock band 2!' where is rock band 1?!

alienhominidReplyPosted by alienhominid on 1 October 2008, 03:42PM
song creating software on consoles is always really difficult to use. hopefully they realised that and made it simple. it would also take a really long time. I was reading a review for WT on some other website and they said they made an almost perfect rendition of smells like teen spirit

stungafReplyPosted by stungaf on 1 October 2008, 03:51PM
guitars in RB look cooler.
drums in GH look cooler.

difference between drums is greater then difference between guitars so GH for me until i see both in real life and find otherwise.

i was going to ask a question, but i never come back to blogs to recheck. is there a way of being notified of blog comments?

BathTubReplyPosted by BathTub on 1 October 2008, 03:55PM
I imported RB, I just got sick of waiting, I will import RB2 when the UK gets a release date. It's total BS how HMX/EA/MTV have ignore the market outside of the US. Even more disgusting since AC/DC Live: Rock Band is going to get a worldwide release over about a month. Why couldn't they have done that for everything else? I just think people are over hyping the create a song feature in GHWT and I think most of that was because they thought they would be able to recreate and share any commercial song they wanted, rather than the original music it was always meant for.

alienhominidReplyPosted by alienhominid on 1 October 2008, 04:23PM
why was RB delayed anyways?

TheDark1ReplyPosted by TheDark1 on 2 October 2008, 01:35PM
GHWT! that's where its at! haha.

djshinraReplyPosted by djshinra on 3 October 2008, 12:00AM
I have RB1 and haven't regretted shelling out the cash to import it. I still am a little bitter over the guitar compatibility bullsh*t on PS3. There was a patch that now allows you to use your GH guitars on RB. I haven't tried it too find out if it the RB ones worked vice versa though.
I'll probably be getting GHWT on 360 since I have the guitars sorted already. Heres looking at you EB with some 3 for 1 deals, I have a few crap ones lying around to trade at the moment :-P

howzitReplyPosted by howzit on 7 October 2008, 10:50AM

All the instruments are cross-compatable and Rock Band is going to be around $100 cheaper, so yay for Rock Band

RuptunexReplyPosted by Ruptunex on 9 October 2008, 06:34PM
Still gonna but both.
