stungaf's book review.

For those of you who can't be bothered reading this blog (i don't blame you) let me do a brief synopsis for you: Books are sh*te.
For the rest of you,
They take too long to read and it takes longer to find out if they’re crap. If you watch a crap movie, you can pretty much tell if it’s worth watching within at least half an hour. Even if you’re an optimist and watch the whole thing hoping it’d get better you’ve only wasted and hour and a half. With books you’ve wasted days. Even if you do find a book that isn’t as crap as others, you still have to manually turn the pages and exert yourself with extraneous eye movement which, lets face it, is quite taxing. Chances are if the story is above average it’ll get made into a movie and you will have, again, wasted valuable gaming time by reading.

Some people hold the argument that movies will never match the imagination of the reader. Bullsh*t. People are stupid.
Besides, how can you imagine something you’ve never experienced or have reference to? It’s like a blind person trying to imagine blue.
If you’ve never seen breasts before and I was to describe some in print, no doubt your lame imagination would conjure up some image, but it’d be wrong. If I were to film it and play it to you in glorious colour you’d probably crack a fat. Imagine if Porn was a novel: ‘There’s this chick, and she’s naked. And she’s lying on a couch. It's totally awesome and hot...’. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather see it than read it.
I read Silence of the Lambs (because I was made to read books when I was at school) and thought it was ok as far as books go, then the movie came out and pissed all over it.

Star Wars was a wicked movie. The book: gay. Fight Club was mean, The book: arse.
Harry Potter books have sold millions over the last few years. The movie made millions in its first weekend. Lord of the Rings, three fat books, who can be bothered? You don’t have to be a dungeons and dragons freak and learn a non-existent language to watch the movies.
I don’t think they have made a movie of the bible yet, but it won’t have to try hard to be better than that overrated piece of waffle. I don’t think I’m alone on this one, a billion Chinese people can’t be wrong. Gideon must think that it’s stink too, every time he checks into a motel he leaves it behind.
Crap books can’t be saved by rad fight scenes and wicked effects, movies can. How many people first saw Jurassic Park and thought ‘Wow, cool dinosaurs’? How many had the same reaction to the book? Anyone, anyone?
There’s also very little in the way of getting something published, any idiot with a keyboard can write, look at me. But try and make a movie and you’ve got numerous people to convince before they invest in making your 'work'. Sure there are some average movies out there, but for every sub-par story on celluloid there’s a thousand in print.
There’s a saying about appearances: Don’t judge a book by its cover.
I think we could apply this saying to books as well. For example, just about all the novels you see have a colourful cover with a picture of something that might arouse interest in the prospective reader. But very rarely, if ever, are there anymore pictures in the book. Except for maybe a black and white photo at the back of the pompous git that spent their life writing it. Wanker.

P.S. You can get porn books... not that I read them, but remember that episode of friends when Joey finds that erotic novel under Rachel's mattress.
But anyway - the Star Wars book was awesome! It talked about Rebels being crushed into a bloody pulp in the snow by the AT-AT's, and that the ice ran scarlet with blood and all this crazy sh*t that isn't in the movie. Also Captain Crazy flies his speeder into an AT-AT in a suicide mission. But thats TESB book..
A terribly negative blog that probably corresponds to a large proportion of people nowdays being complete dullards. Movies are a visual experience get the written word and also music to some extent create an amazing experience in you're mind. Take for instance The Golden Compass a terrible movie based on the "His Dark Meterials" series which was extremlely great series of books which won alot of awards. I understand that certain ADD ridded people such as yourself might not be able to sit still and appreciate a good book but that does not mean they're bad. You're intitled to your own opinion of course I just wish your opinion wasn't so near-sighted.
its just a blog ladies. go wipe your tears with your degrees in awesomeness k?

"Movies are a visual experience get the written word and also music to some extent create an amazing experience in you're mind."
- i think this poorly written sentence of yours is trying to say that books and music are superior because they allow your mind to create the images and experience.
further to my reasoning in the blog, do you think that everyone has a better imagination that HR.Giger?. That if they were to read "Alien" their limited experiences would allow then to conjure up images of anything close to the designs of the perverted Swissman?
What you see in (good) movies are the collaborations of some of the best and most creative minds on the planet. you, dear reader, are not one of them. You are not in their league, so how do you expect your imagination to be better than theirs?
It seems you take things far too seriously, maybe you should chill out and read a book. it'll put you to sleep in no time.
thanks teach.
wow, would you look at that - i cracked a fat again.
I prefer Manga over all. Not comics. Manga
But good blog!
Unlike you i have only been on this site about a month probably less and tried writing two extremlely short blogs which due to their shortness and amateurness were not ranked greatly. I wrote that responce at past 12AM so spelling and grammar mistakes are to be expected. I think your blogs are very good so theres no need to get all personal about it ok.
Lol thanks for the casual insults across the internet(i'm so hurt) I wasn't having some spaz attack at you or anything as I did laugh at this blog. I dont think books are superior or anything as I definatly watch alot of movies instead of reading books.

Seeing as this is your only one.
especially if you have open cuts.
if you don't want personal attacks then best not to spout them yourself:

i assume you mean riddled.
i just get bored of the cop out that 'books are better because it's up to your imagination'. like punters can in someway envisage something better than filmakers who dedicate their lives to designing, creating and producing their imaginations. i don't give people that much credit.
also i like stirring up self righteous bookworms.
take everything i say with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the great read cuz.
- Porn in novel form? Yes, what a strange idea, it's called erotic fiction and it's been around for a very long time.
- I would also say Jurassic Park was a very interesting novel. It wasn't the greatest novel but it wasn't the "fight scenes" that saved it in my mind but some of the ethical issues and flaws raised about the theory of evolution (the latter completely absent from the film).
- Judging the quality of a medium based on how many Hollywood execs have to approve an idea? Beyond the mere fact that book publishing requires a relatively similar process, suggesting a system that favours safe, cookie-cutter products is a good system is disturbing to me.
There's nothing wrong with believing films are better than books if you can back it up but you're employing lazy, sh*tty logic, the kind that might appeal to a young child. Put down the James Patterson and pick up a big boy's book sometime.
i'd have to remove my tongue from my cheek to respond to you properly. and then it wouldn't be very entertaining, so:
bad books vs bad movies - many more books than movies = more bad books. more chance of picking up bad books with little or no reviews supporting or condemning them. yes you might happen on an unfound gem, but it'll still be a book. it will take a couple of days to get through. i could learn a new language in a couple of days and still have time to watch a movie.
yes i know about erotic fiction, it the stuff lesbians and housewives read.
if i'm at a loss for hand shandy material, i MIGHT flick through to find a dirty passage (pun intended) but usually i'll recall something i've actually seen. like Slaf in the shower, all sudsy and slippery.
i agree, approvals processes can create homogenised in both industries, but books are MUCH easier to publish (i know people who have done both, and i'd have to say the books were sh*t, the movies were ok).
and yes sh*tty books can be made in to even sh*ttier movies - pride and prejudice. yawn.
me again:
yes i'm employing lazy sh*tty logic, it's part of the whole tone of the blog. if you'd like to read between the lines you might not be so incensed by some random guy on the net denouncing your favourite tomes. maybe if i made a movie of my blog you wouldn't miss the satirical edge. but then maybe you would.
@ danny boy.

I like novels and films and think both offer very different delights. I'm not so much "incensed" as I was dissapointed that prose was getting so hard-done for little reason other than accessibility.
Lol, people in China aren't ALLOWED to read the Bible, as Communism thinks that Religion is an exploitation of the working class :p And they've made lots of movies on parts of the Bible... *cough* Passion of the Christ *cough*
lol who would wanna read the bible? Its a long boring string of fairy tales xD
To my knowledge, a series of poem/songs (Book of Psalms) doesn't count as a fairy tale :p
sorry, you clearly missed the point and the audience it was intended for.
the reactions being part of the blog. but never-the-less. feel free to feel high and mighty if you wish.
Lol, do you know anything about the Bible? The Book of Psalms is a part of the Old Testament :p Go wiki it.
Well...due to the sheet music (or it's equivilent) for the Psalms not surviving, I don't think you would have heard them as their maker intended :p

thanks, at last.
maybe next time i'll take a light hearted look at child molestation.
people might not get so precious about it.

had holes in it and everything. movie version = poo.
I love that little guy.
yeah, the hungry, hungry caterpillar was a great book.

Can't be bothered reading all these comments... They're like books in themselves. But seriously, 5 stars. Not so much because I agree, but I do see your point and it did entertain me. I must admit I do like books - but I never get around to reading them. I find them good for stimulating my imagination which is particularly good when you study fine arts. Anyways, well done. :)
let's just say i'm being retrospectively ironic.
didn't think it was that offensive.
lilboy l33t will just have to be put in his place via telepathy.
*thinks hard at him*
yeah i went there. how's that for quality b*itch!
Books are basically for the 1 person out of every hundred with an awesome imagination, a huge amount of spare time and no one to go to the cinema with.
tl;dr F*** you good sir, books > you
Oh for f***s sake. It's no wonder this country is turning into a bunch of inbred dumbasses, no-one ever reads anymore. There is some fantastic books out there, and if your little attention span requires "OMG ZAPPY ZAPPY KAPLOWEY" action to keep you interested, then that's your fault, NOT the authors.
tl;dr F*** you good sir, books > you
mr angry pants.
I think you are a complete waste of space mate, you have no imagination and are a gormless git. I can teach you how to read you ADD riddled monkey boy if you can sit still long enough.
i'd love for you to teach me how to read, perhaps we could start with your long-winded, boring and biased blog on kinect. i managed the first 3 paras but fell asleep.
i'll set aside 2 years just to get through it, then maybe i'll get all worked up and post a chickensh*t, baseless comment and hope no one else reads it. i don't want anyone to make fun of me.
also your name is mattyj. you lose.
enjoy your life, asshat.
I'm not a book lover, infact I only tend to read autobiographies. Probably why I only scanned the blog and the comments. Many LOL's were had though. Cheers Stun and cheers to Shuyin and MattyJ too :)
