Halo 3

Published Friday 29 Jan 2010 12:56pm | Xbox 360

8/10

Now saving the entire galaxy in your living room you say? I know this is a bold and big statement to say but in halo this is exactly what you do.
As you all know halo is a huge franchise one would even say it has pushed the xbox into the videogame markets and kept it their.
After multiple play troughs’ and experiencing the package as a whole and 3 years after release I am finally ready to write my first review.

One of the main game play attractions of halo 3 is the AI and that the game is always different every new game. I found this most obvious in the jet pack brutes, as they can either fly around and try to take you out close or shoot you from afar and they are always landing in different places and depending on the situation doing different things.
I fell because halo 3 does not rely on scripted events like call of duty or uncharted 2 the game play feels more free form and you can always play out situations as you see fit.
That brings me to my favourite point in halo 3 the game play and game world are so open and every thing feels smooth. The game combines weapons, vehicles and enemies so well that nothing really fells forced.
One second you will be firing a Spartan laser, next you will be piloting a wraith. But the thing that makes it seem blended and not forced is choice, maybe you want to blow up the wraith with the Spartan laser or maybe you don’t or maybe you can hijack that wraith and take it all the way to the end of the level.
Compared to other games such as call of duty 2 where you only control a tank for a certain level but when you see a tank in another level you a forced to blow it up makes you appreciate and enjoy the halo 3 game play.

Graphics in halo 3 to me always seem to get bashed in reviews, but to this day the halo 3 graphics remain one of my favourites.
The level of detail in the graphics are crazy every gun, enemy, vehicle, character and object are smartly crafted and designed. This really immerses you in the halo 3 world add in fantastic level design and even to this day it is still my benchmark for other games to reach.
Colour in this game has always been great when you compare it to the bland gears of war scenery will range form dense jungles to deserts and even snowy mountain caps in the space of a couple of levels. This makes the game look fresh and every level has its own vibe such as horror on the first flood mission

Halo 3 sound is great depending on the mood and or intensity of the level/situation
It draws you in and somehow makes you feel compelled and emotionally drawn to the world may it be Marty’s scoring, weapon effects or the grunts unique sound the halo world really comes alive.

One thing that did majorly bug me about halo 3 are the cut scenes and the story, while halo 2 is my favourite game of all time I think it is so because of the epic cut scenes
And the story is really fleshed out in them. But halo 3 story is hardly told in them and nothing really happens in them.
Only in halo 3 it kind of like watching a movie that happens just because it does. (SPOLIER ALERT)
Like I would rather have halo 3 showing in a epic cinematic of the covenant being wiped out and every one happy and the flood charity landing on the ark more shown properly because I doubt that non hardcore fans will pick up the nod that master chief does to the flood charity to show that Cortana still has the index and is on it, I didn’t even realise that it was the flood charity until my second or third play through.
(SPOLIER ENDS)
The one thing that really got me was that halo 3 drops the covenant storyline.
This would have made the story more understandable and even added a couple more minutes or so to each cut scene. Like what is the prophet of truth doing while master chief is on earth ( he’s unearthing the ark I know but they should have shown it ) because all we get is a small message from the sarge saying he’s doing something big wow. I would have rather been spoon feed the story than halo 3 being a really vague
bunch of cut scenes after every awesome level.

The value in halo 3 is really high as you get a great game with an awesome multiplayer and the community options are awesome you really have to download some forged maps and watch some awesome community videos to get a great taste of what you can do with this game.

Overall this is a game no gamer should miss out on. I think just the choices and options of what you can do in the game and outside of the game make this a game no one can forget.

Game play : 10/10 after 3 years I am still loving it, one of those games you can count on for a good time over and over again.

Graphics : 9/10 everything looks so good

Sound : 9/10 halo roots with a new flavour even marine dialog is great and is nearly always different

Story : 6/10 while the story is good and wraps everything up the presentation of it is horrible especially after halo 2 which dwarfs halo 3 in this department

Value : 9/10 you wont regret buying this legend of a game

Final score : 8.6/10

Side note. This is my first review and im not that great at writing sorry if their is many mistakes, hope you enjoyed my thoughts
