Let me say right now. I am not a FF fan. This was the first Final Fantasy game i played so i didn't know what to expect. That said let's begin the review.
Gameplay
Instead of turn based rpg that i believe final fantasy is known for you, walk around in the real world and battle in the same world. You don't go into some battle screen, enemies are just there and you just walk up and slash them! Pretty cool and the graphics are amazing! Full 3D cut scenes with excellent voice acting! Like the original FF series you have a party of up to 4 player, but you can't swap them for others in the game because you only get 4 players to choose from. Yuri the swordsman, Al the mage, Gnash the archer and ....um some little midget i forget her name. Each had their own special abilities but you'll be mostly playing as Yuri because he can deal the most damage. It's a very unique battle system. Using all the players abilities well is the key to winning in this game.
Story
The story to the game is just brilliant! It takes place in two segments as Young Yuri and Teenage Yuri. Young Yuri serves as the tutorial part of the game while Teenage Yuri is more of the actual game. It's really a hard story to describe so you should just play it for yourself. It's worth watching the cut scenes in this game!
Multiplayer
This is where the game really shines! You can connect with 3 other players and play through all the stages of the main game as a team just without any cut scenes. You are able to customize your own character in this mode and buy weapons and items as a team and then trade with other players or you can be a jerk and hog all the gold >:). Multi really shines in this game because of the multiplayer options. You can even choose to play through multi alone and then invite friends round to help get the goodies from past levels. Pretty handy!
Replay Value
As soon as you clear the game you start again from the beginning with all your stats kept and baddies around are beefed up in stats. This may be annoying but some of the best weapons and armor become available after clearing the game! Plus it's fun to play through the levels again anyway which makes for enjoyable replay.
Conclusion
A nice solid DS dungeon crawler! Nice gameplay and moving story just what every RPG needs. If you're not a final fantasy kind of person you might want to try it before buying it as I did. But in the end it's a great DS game worthy of every players collection.
