Don't miss out on these blogs!
Welcome to the eighth instalment of our Best of the Blogs feature, where we play catch-up on the best of the previous week’s blogs. Some interesting and funny entries this week, check out the top three below and be sure to keep those quality blogs coming!
Blog #3: When the hell did I become a CONSOLE gamer?? by dbsmith
Third spot this week is dbsmith with a blog analysing his metamorphosis from PC caterpillar to console butterfly. dbsmith talks about his PC gaming past, catching the console bug with the help of Lego Indiana Jones played on a “borrowed” 360 and the fun he’s had since. This is an interesting blog and may sound familiar to some of our readers.
Here’s a sample of what some commentators had to say.
”Good blog, I think the real issue with PC gaming is the constant spend when it comes to upgrades to allow the games to run at a good rate. Console gaming is nice in that it's more of a pick up and play experience. In saying that though there is the constant cost of buying the likes of the next gen consoles to come out.” by Ron
”There’s only a few games these days that can draw me back to my pc. Console gaming is more social which is what attracts me. Playing FPS on pc always seems alot more hardout, players seem so up them selves, sure they're prob better than me. I like to relax when I'm playing games which is why I play.” by Insanctity
Blog #2: Adver-gaming by Donutta
Second is Donutta with an entry that, much like his previous blogs, is filled with insightful and intelligent discussion. The focus of Liam’s latest blog is advertising in games and how it effects us, the gaming public, and the industry as a whole. Liam also discusses a potential solution to some of the growth problems faced by the industry in the form of split SKU’s for games that either come with or without advertising. This is an interesting and worthwhile read.
Check out some of the discussion in the comments below.
”Good idea, but like you said it won't happen. They'd rather put the advertisers money in their own back pocket at this stage than give the consumer a price-drop.” from Daniel1987
”Advertising to a market that doesn't like touching their wallets won't go very far. Advertising should be done in blockbuster games but not 'in your face' advertising. Just website links, product features, and humorous signs.” by BlackRetina
”Acclaim releases a few games a year that are free (except for the advertising). I think that it's a great idea. The games are done by Uni students and the like (as work experience) so Acclaim just reap the awards of advertising.” from Insanctity
Blog(s) #1: GCA Blog #1: Arrival and GCA Blog #2: First Day by McPhisto
Top spot this week is going to McPhisto with not one but two (yes, I can totally do that) blog entries detailing his arrival in Singapore to cover the Games Convention Asia event being held there. These blogs will cover Tristan’s journey and offer up a fresh Kiwi perspective for you, the New Zealand gaming enthusiast, on the crowded and smelly world of games conferences.
Here are some quotes from the comments of both blogs.
”Hah, sounds like fun! And I'm sure the count will indeed go up at the conference tomorrow.” by Phoenix
”Sounds like a blast.” by Itachi27
”Good to hear that your kicking some a$$ in SC!” from Daniel1987
That brings us to a close for this week’s Best of the Blogs. Be sure to check out all of the above blogs and if you have any thoughts or suggestions on this week’s entries feel free to let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for next week’s blog re-cap.
