No this isn't Jerry Springer, so stay tuned.
Welcome once again to gaming’s only animal-orientated column, the Rumour Monkey. And just like a hangover after a night on the turps, he refuses to go away.
Another month down in the books, as the videogame world slowly builds up to the festive season, and what a great one it’s shaping up to be. Make sure you keep visiting NZGamer.com in the coming months as we review the latest titles, as well as provide comprehensive previews and informative columns written by a great group of authors.
Now enough with the shameless plugging, this isn’t an infomercial, on with the show!
Rumour: World of Warcraft is set to be heading to the Xbox 360.
Background Info: Whilst searching across job sites for a career as a professional porn star, monkey managed to come across a listing on the Blizzard Entertainment website for a next-gen programmer.
Monkey Says: Why isn’t there room for a monkey? Why? I could do all sorts of tricks even your parents couldn’t show you. Ahem, now I know this rumour has been doing the rounds for quite a while now, but with the 360’s release approaching, and the Warcraft World, no pun intended, becoming bigger, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this title getting inside the white box.
Monkeys Confidence: 7/10 Bananas – Just think of the monkey when you watch your filthy blue movies.
Rumour: Rockstar Leeds is already begun planning to develop a PSP title similar to Liberty City Stories, for Vice City.
Background Info: While searching the Internet, as aforementioned, Monkey also stumbled upon this juicy tid-bit.
Monkey Says: With the impending release of Liberty City Stories, Rockstar would be wise to keep the franchise of GTA rolling along on the PSP at least, so they can financially reap the rewards of the series success. As for actually releasing and developing a title based around Vice City, I think it’ll be a question of when, not if.
Monkeys Confidence: 9/10 Bananas – I’m soooo confident on this one.
Rumour: The Playstation 2 is set to drop to around $NZ200, when or before the Xbox 360 is released.
Background Info: A quick recon of Sony HQ by monkey lead him to believe he was on to something…
Monkey Says: See, I usually stay away from the corporate types, but when a free luncheon and booze up is on the cards, well what can I say? Anyway those curried prawns didn’t go down too well, and I had to slip away to the monkey’s room for a bit. I then somehow managed to stumble upon a Sony meeting in the room! They said they were playing twister, yet I now know the truth, as it’s pretty obvious that Sony has to pull something out of the hat to try and steal the 360’s release glory. Also expect more cheap games, maybe a bit more on that in the next issue.
Monkeys Confidence: 10/10 Bananas – If only it were naked twister.
Rumour: Keeping with a GTA themed issue, Rockstar are well in to planning the next console instalment of the series for the PS3, but more importantly they have turned attention to basing the game outside of America.
Background Info: A long string of small, almost throw away articles, have led people to believe that the game could visit the orient or even Europe for the first time.
Monkey Says: Lets face facts, they have played almost every American societal card they have. 90’s west coast gangs, 80’s Miami, and the beginning of the new century in semi-like New York. Time to maybe look overseas, or delve further in to American past or present. I wouldn’t be surprised to see something based on the Crips and Bloods gang wars, but that would be too close to San Andreas, maybe something on the Mafia or Triads perhaps?
Monkeys Confidence: 7/10 Bananas – Might be time to brush up on your Cantonese or maybe Italian.
So there ends another column for the humble Monkey, and not too bad of a toll either, only three Goths, two 5th columnists and a large bottle of Jim Beam. Ah the perks of NZG HQ. Until next time, you have just wasted ten minutes of your life, and I’m the one and only Rumour Monkey.
