SEGA have announced a new side-scrolling adventure game called The Cave, for release as a digital download on console and PC in early 2013.

Developed by Double Fine (Costume Quest, Iron Brigade), and designed by legendary adventure game designer Ron Gilbert (Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island), SEGA promise "Puzzles, Adventure and Spelunking".

Not only that, but apparently The Cave is "so odd and compelling that it can only be described as odd and compelling".

From the trailer's YouTube description:

Your first clue that The Cave is a place like no other will come just after you assemble your team of three unlikely adventurers--each with their own unique personalities and stories--and stumble across a subterranean amusement park and a medieval castle, not to mention a fully armed and ready to launch nuclear-tipped ICBM. The Cave is waiting.

Looks interesting. I've just grabbed the demo, might grab the full version if I likes.

Just started playing, very neat game. Witty dialogue akin to Monkey Island series.
