Buzz! may not have conquered the world of casual gaming in the same way as those music based party favourites, but it has found a niche. It had a number of versions on the PS2 and with the likes of Buzz! Quiz TV on the market, and the upcomming Buzz! Brain of New Zealand, the franchise is looking to take advantage of the PlayStation Network to keep its content as fresh and relevant as possible.

Now, providing you already own a PlayStation 3 version of the game, downloading the Quiz of the Year 2008 question pack is quick and painless. Clocking in at less then 50 meg, the pack is but a fraction of most of the lastest free game updates. The quiz, once loaded, is accessed separately through the Knowledge Channel and for the most part the 500 new questions are a lot tougher then your regular round of Buzz! This is in some part due to the fact that you are answering general knowledge questions - no limiting it to just fashion or music, but it’s also that many of the questions are aimed at a more mature audience.

So, without giving too much away you now get to answer questions on the Large Hadron Collider and Sebastien Loeb. This is instead of questions about Furbies, Brittany Spears and USB leads (although I still think the world would be a better place if USB did stand for Ultimate Sex Bomb). However, even with this more mature outlook, you still get to throw pies and bombs at your friends.

Being a trivia god, only ever having lost one game of Buzz to two 11 year old girls on the back of running Backstreet Boys questions in the countdown round (for god’s sake – two Backstreet Boys questions in a row), the continual challenge of tougher Buzz! questions is a pretty sweet prospect. Giving all of us that are more intellectually gifted, and less physically co-ordinated, the chance to get our own back for all those times we’ve been outplayed, out fought and out sung.

Fingers on your buzzers.

Interesting, I've been playing a bit of Buzz recently and always wondered about the quiz packs, but none of them really took my fancy. Except this one. Now it's just a matter of whether I'll play it enough to warrant the purchase...

I've been meaning to buy Buzz for the PS3 since release. I've still only got the original music quiz with the wired buzzers. I really need a new challenge. I've dominated all comers at the music quiz with my 100% victory streak =)

It's probably just me being not too bright, but this Buzz is a real challenge.
