Our hopes for the next in the series?
Grand Theft Auto 4 was spectacular - sure, there were some niggling issues around the friends system and some of those mini-games you had to play were a bit average, but the core - nicking cars and blowing dudes up - was a superb evolution of the already excellent series.
GTA 5 rumours are beginning to appear more and more often and we thought it was a good time to stick our oar in and suggest a few ways that the formula could be tweaked for an even more enjoyable experience.
• When I go to a Pay & Spray, I should be able to choose at least the colour my car comes out in - even better would be to jump into an editor where I can select whitewalls, chop the springs, drop in a vent, add some racing stripes... etc. This could extend to the garage where you could perform mechanical upgrades in addition to just repairing the car.
• More clothing options - there were less customization options in GTA4 than there were in San Andreas, which was a shame. I like to dress my gangster up in a fashion that suits my mood and found that I was unable to this time around.
• On-screen GPS-style navigation aid - on a large HD screen, the map is next to useless because by the time you look at it and figure out where you need to go, you've crashed into a building. Don't txt & drive, kids!
• Ability to set some radio preference options when you're not in the car. Some sort of "always choose this station, rotate only between these stations, etc" type of control to save mucking around when you're in a police chase (97% of the time if you play like me!)
• Bring back the ability to buy locations and earn revenue from them! This was a fun extension to Vice City / San Andreas.
• Some sort of unlockable device that will help you track which of the collectable items du jour you've already collected. Having 200 pigeons to kill is great but when there's only one left, it's pretty hard to find it...
• Tanks, planes and more guns.
• Significant revamp of the friends system. When it worked it definitely added something special to the mix, but all too often it was a chore to participate in the awkward mini-games or handle the myriad of contacts while you're flying at 200km/h with police helicopters chasing you. Would be a shame to lose it all together but not as big a shame as if it came back exactly as it was.
• Maybe only get a ticket if you're busted at a single star? Then you have the option to just take the financial hit rather than try to outrun the cops and (potentially) make things worse.
• A hardcore mode where the police will bust you for speeding or running red lights (optional fun for the open-world sim fans that want to try to stay under the radar when running their criminal organisation).

At the moment red dead has all my rockstar attention though
- If San Andreas can do, why step back with GTAIV right? I agree, bring it back in GTAV!
"• More clothing options - there were less customization options in GTA4 than there were in San Andreas, which was a shame. I like to dress my gangster up in a fashion that suits my mood and found that I was unable to this time around."
- Agreed. Saints Row did it. Hell! Saints Row even had plastic surgery! I only felt suave in that suit in GTAIV. And felt retro in Claude's suit from GTAIII.
"• On-screen GPS-style navigation aid - on a large HD screen, the map is next to useless because by the time you look at it and figure out where you need to go, you've crashed into a building. Don't txt & drive, kids!"
- Again, Saints Row did it. Copy it Rockstar. Everyone is starting to copy the iPhone, so why can't you copy Saints Row?
"• Ability to set some radio preference options when you're not in the car. Some sort of "always choose this station, rotate only between these stations, etc" type of control to save mucking around when you're in a police chase (97% of the time if you play like me!)"
- I know there were some preferences to set only specific stations. I'd like to see a radio station come into play that works with your HD backed up tunes! PERSONAL MUSIC RADIO STATION!
"• Bring back the ability to buy locations and earn revenue from them! This was a fun extension to Vice City / San Andreas."
- More money is good :D
"• Some sort of unlockable device that will help you track which of the collectable items du jour you've already collected. Having 200 pigeons to kill is great but when there's only one left, it's pretty hard to find it..."
- Something ala Crackdown aye? Could work...what about some form of tune that gets louder on your cellphone the closer you get? FIXED.
"• Tanks, planes and more guns."
- I miss my tanks...

- Totally. It was ridiculous to get a call like that when you're on 5 stars. It's like BANG BANG! Ring Ring! "Oh, hey Roman, no I can't hang out, cops...You're p*$$ed at me & I lose points??" WHAT THE!
"• Maybe only get a ticket if you're busted at a single star? Then you have the option to just take the financial hit rather than try to outrun the cops and (potentially) make things worse."
- I say ticket at 1 and 2 stars with a bigger bill for 2 stars, 3 stars is jail with an option to break out (PRISON BREAK MINI GAME!), 4 stars is an instant taser so no break out game, 5 stars is DEATHMATCH! And then, THEN, if you p*$$ them enough for 6 stars, THEY TAKE YOU DOWN WITH THE ARMY!
"• A hardcore mode where the police will bust you for speeding or running red lights (optional fun for the open-world sim fans that want to try to stay under the radar when running their criminal organisation)."
- So...a simulation mode? If how cops reacted were changes to what would happen to you, then a sim mode would be rad! Ticket for running a light. Hilarious! OH! Ticket for taking a friend call on the phone while driving :'D
Was there a robbery mode like Saints Row? I always enjoyed that. Which one was burglary mode in? If that were bought back where it was alot more fun, that would be rad, and more obvious for places you could rob.
Also, bring back the clubs! Watching in-game comedy was fantastic!
OH! and in regard to sim mode, maybe have a limited weapon store, so you can only carry 2, and if you want to carry more, you have to have a backpack! HELL! Put that in the actual game, I'm down for realism. And with that backpack, if they brought back look after your body from San Andreas, the backpack could could as weights and stamina gain, increasing your muscle and running! WICKED.
Ahhh...ideas are fun...
* I didn't know the guy in GTAIII had a name.
But yeh it would be a hundred times better if it had all those extras to do, especially having something to do with your money other than buy a sh*t load of ammo or prosties

"An alternative rendition of the character, known simply as "Claude", has appeared in the Grand Theft Auto III canon. While his name is never disclosed in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas hinted his name to be "Claude", as uttered by Catalina during several phone conversations throughout the course of the game. It was also revealed in Grand Theft Auto IIIs data files that the player was once allowed to enter their own character name, and the "DEFNAM" (default name) value for it was "Claude""
agreed. Also possibly you could do more moves etc while fighting? like headbutting and taking people hostage aswell as um.... some 'dodgey' thinks. Car mods would make it great loved that in San A. Better control system? i found the driving horrible and maybe a FPS mode when selecting 'zoom' then MP games would be great!. Also cooler army things like airforce stealth bombers and unmaned vechiles and you could nuke the city etc. Oh and natural disasters that occur randomly and the world is destoryed by climate change if your an evil money hungry dude something like that. The list goes on....... oh and make the map real! use google earth to map out the game ;)
Also, what about location? Obviously it won't be a faux New York again. Personally I'd like to see something a bit different... A city that hasn't been focused on before. It would likely need to still be American though, because it's probably easier to take the piss. Maybe something like Washington DC? Then it could have some presidential missions/assassinations?
I don't think upgrading a car is worthwhile, since they always seem to become a flaming wreck before too long.
There was an option to track the hidden items. You had to go to a website on one of the in-game laptops. A bit obscure, but it was there.
Getting the cops on your ass for driving through red lights was in the last Driver game. It worked well, since that game was about car chases, but I can imagine it frustrating gamers who just want to get back to a mission after failing it.
I was so disappointed with GTA4. Such a waste.
Just a couple of things:

Some good ideas though. I haven't played Saints Row at all, but I like the idea of creating your own characters look from face to clothes etc. Would be nice to see in a GTA.
A mix of Vice City and San Andreas would be good. I liked the very open areas of San Andreas, would be awesome for some sort of hunting mini-game where you hunt deer and whatnot.
Possibly some sort of Karma system similar to inFamous would be cool. If you choose this path it will have consequences or rewards later down the track.
Also bring back the bicycles. Those things were so much fun in San Andreas. Maybe add in something different too like skateboards/rollerblades/wakeboards/surfboards etc. for some extreme action.
If they were to bring back the eating/gym type things from San Andreas, they would need to make it better. It's still a good idea.
but yea if gta 5 had all those it wud be sooo sweeet
lol i think GTA 4 didnt have most of the features is coz rockstar was in a hurry getting gta4 out for christmas.
but yea if gta 5 had all those it wud be sooo sweeet
What are you on about? The game came out in April and was actually delayed. It's original release was meant to be October.
Property revenue could work... but you would need a reason for that money... GTAIV puts you in a situation where you have more money than you will ever need. Maybe if you purchased a club for instance, there might be incentives for doing so by permanently have an Infernus spawn in the 'managers' car park, and weapons in the office or something. But I don't think they'll go back to running into a money symbol... more likely they'd go for something like periodic text messages to say your bank balance had increased.

i too had my issues with the handling of the vehicles at first (especially bikes!) but i found it fun once i got the hang of it. but i have to say i think the days of the car-mod is over simply because the cars would barely last once you got outta the garage.
regardless i'm sure rockstar will do a fine job like always
I say... the next gta needs to be a ps3 exclusive (like the good ol days). Because this way the game could potentially be 5x better... due to the game being contracted to microsoft aswell - they make this game to the standards of the lesser console.
(5x better meaning - 5x the disc space - better processors etc... simple fact)
I defintly like san andrea's better - for the fun side of the game - all the little extra missions - remote controlled cars / helicopters.. the fun things like that.,
Tanks / jet packs / that fighter plane that could hover... skate boards bikes / scooters... all could easily be posible with a ps3 exclusive.
Power sliding around corners on bikes and in cars was much more fun in san andreas.
the shooting method was way better in 4. (providing you can fully customize controlls still)
Bigger map! .. having that huge mountan was awsome... add some country land this time.
more weapons... somehow...
Yeah the bigger gps thing would be good
i love how you can walk into rooms without load screens.
they need to give the people 1000 more sayings that they cycle through - so you dont sick of hearing the same ol same ol...
They had a personal radio station on the origional xbox version... y it wasnt on the latest one... beats me.
multiplayer.... omg deathmatches were sooo crap.. auto aim and shoot... boooorrrrringggg... especially when you all spawned in the same place. a gta deathmatch should have everyone riding around in cars / bikes going nuts. planes / bikes.
add more mini games... such as mini golf... go carting.. paintball... red bull stlye plane races... down hill luge runs... everything..
Hardcore mode.... (optional) ... would be fun as a cheat that you can turn on and off as you please... or just an option in the main menue.
yeah... i spent no money at all playing gta 4... i bought a suite and did my hair when i was told to for a mission or two... thats it.... bring back buying houses and busines's... or you have no point of money?
getting a ticket for 1-2 star - maybee add demerit points or something... so after u get pulled over 3-4 times they might arest you ...
just for a laugh.. when you go on a computer in the game... you should be able to go onto the real internet... use msn or something...
A proper friends system... these games need to look at how resistance 1 friends system was set up - was done perfectly - i hate using the ps3 mesage system when you are in game - so slow and disruptive. sometimes causes ps3 to freeze or mess up.
should be able to competley customise your character - in a "home" style way - faceial features - height - peirings.. everything.
As much as i know this cant be done... but if i shoot a building with a rocket launcher ... i would like to see a building to destroyed.
Thats all i can think of at the moment :D but seriously.. the 360 is ruining so many games by being so crap... come on microsoft - come into the future so we can play some decent games
OK so i have read ppls comments and I think there is something there that no1 has seemed to pick up on...

As for tanks, planes and more guns, I think that was not included in GTA IV for more than just gameplay reasons. Seeing as how Liberty City is modelled on NYC, and NYC has its fair share of conflict with planes...
Yeah, I don't even think the politically incorrect R* would go that far.
-Also Custom weapons and cars.Buying parts over the net or in game shops.
-The endless trying please everyone was annoying as hell.
-Underwater swimming
-Push Bikes
-
2. Maybe being able to tune in your own Radio stations or moving your Ipod playlist onto your PS3 to play these.
3. Bring back the hood environment of San Andreas (That was cool!)
4. The Garage idea is cool.
5. Make the language more vulgar and make it more sexual when you're picking up girls or going home with them. It just doesn't feel like it warrants a R18 rating at the moment.
6. Maybe swap the storyline around a little bit. We're always the character at the start who is a stranger to the situation. Why not be some big shot who takes the fall and has to climb back up again? :)
GTA4 had races you could take any car you owned to... but you couldn't mod.
I suspect they are protecting their other franchise's by excluding these features from the game.
the game was fully deserved of a 10. Anyone who was dissapointed after playing the game through in all its euphoria beauty had some unrealistic expectations or shouldn't be playing this type of game in the first place. Sure it could of had a few more bells and whistles but that wouldn't add much to the polished core game. Alot of what was thrown in to san andreas was pointless or a pain. GTA is beefy in the right areas and to it's strength I think (and everyone else with a clue who has reviewed the game)
OK so i have read ppls comments and I think there is something there that no1 has seemed to pick up on...

He was a dark, mysterious character, with a alright sense of humour. I thought he was brilliant. Although, i don't want him in the next one.
They need to bring back some of the things that past gta's have had (of course improved).
I'd like it to have more side missions, because i felt that other than the main storyline, the side quests seemed really plain, boring, and repetitive. Unless, i went on a killing spree, which had a life-span also.
I would like there to be more weapons, with more than 2 types of pistols, please..
And make that you can only conceal pistols and other smaller arms (smg's,sawnoffs, carbines).
A good feature would be to have a bar that you could break into cars with, and quickly disabling the car alarms (maybe a quick and easy button-pressing mini-game?).
There is alot they can do to improve on gta4, really when you think about it, there is no barriers with a game like this.. It is exciting to think of the possibilities.
er.. what? Read better websites. If you actually believe what you said about PS3 vs. 360, that is. Posting fanboy crap like that doesn't give your opinion any credit.
Fair argument (unfortunately), but i do not think that Rockstar would make it exclusive, simply because they make more money with it being on both consoles.
I would like it to be on both consoles, mainly because i have a 360, but i can understand that GTA5, if it was a ps3 exclusive would be better, simply because of the space on the blu-ray disc. So they could 'potentially' fit more data on it.

It would be great if they double disc'd the next game then they could do a bit more with it.
I'm not trying to hate here, but you can't really add anything to this game cause of the 360, I'm sure they thought of and would've liked to add all this extra stuff bu size restrictions would've made that impossible.
It would be great if they double disc'd the next game then they could do a bit more with it.
On the contrary most of what ive heard suggests that the process of making games and working with the inner architechture of the ps3 is sometimes more trouble than it is worth. The dual processors in the 360 are very efficient and user friendly in most developers opinions.
You guys seriously believe that size restriction crap? Don't believe everything you read on the internet.
So for the next GTA, I want Rockstar to put some content in that will see you past the last mission in the game.
The GTA series has been almost entirely focused on the journey, and not the destination. There's not a great amount of reason to have a free-roam game without the places to go.
At least in San Andreas, we could roam about in our own custom car, wearing whatever clothes take our fancy, into whichever environment we prefer.
GTA IV was reminiscent of a MMO in my opinion. Reach end-game, then figure out there's nothing else to do. It may as well be an adventure game, only that the quests are half-arsed because they're not the main focus of the game.

Imagine a Prototype kinda cheat that gave the character powers like superman. Or the flying cars and boats cheat that made you take off when you drove too fast in one of the previous games. Teleporting will also be cool.
As far as my requests go I reckon that the more realistic it gets the more we enjoy it:
- airbags in the cars for when you first have an accident and then it starts knocking your health after that
- prostitutes that you can actually provide business to, if you know what I mean :-)(remember the days of duke nukem paying a stripper to show you her tassels)
- being a pimp
- strip joints
- ability to jump and parachute from a helicopter or plane
- variety of planes and helicopters that can be unlocked
- driving physics need to be tweaked a bit
- having some sort of off-shore military base that you need to try infiltrate or overrun will be a nice addition
- valet parking at some places
- I think avoid the eating and gym thing, this is not the Sims
- incorporate some sort of kidnappingprotection task to get more money, having 'celebrities' vs average joe type objectives with it
- incorporate a calendar type thing in the cell phone so you can keep track of your missions, completed mini games, pigeons found etc
- more buildings need to be accessible
- more websites, tv programs and much more comedy shows
- ability to talk to anyone on the street for more mini games will be a cool addition
I'd like to see Rockstar take previous versions of the game and create a world of GTA. Imagine being able to take a short flight to an updated San Andreas or Vice City to knock off Phil Collins, then taking a ferry back to Liberty to watch your daily comedy show.
After the player has recovered migically from being sawn in half by a gatling gun (from a chopper of course), he should see the rebuilding of the damage he caused. This will add more life to a city where people aren't on a 24/7 evening stroll, or a week-long sunday drive with no real destination.
Maybe have a real living city, where you'll see characters go to work., a rubbish truck with real rubbish-runners, a paperboy delivering the New Zealand Herald, buses picking up students, someone mowing their lawn at a eff'd up hour in the morning, the local bakery busy with people getting their breakfast meat pie, suits walking into highrise buildings, builders rebuilding your neighbours house after a dispute about mowing his lawn at 6 in the morning that ended with you demolishing it with a rocket launcher, etc....
OK, maybe we'll see this in next gen consoles, but GTA V needs more interaction between the player and his environment.
personally, the only thing id want Rock star (pfffff, wannabes) to do is not create so much bloody hype as they did for gta4
6 months i had to put up with obnoxious fanboys vomiting cheers and religious demeanor's.
i did do the same thing with ssbb...........
but i have since accepted my sins and moved on.
prove me wrong? ....
add optimus prime as an unlockable vechile so u can go on an awesome rampage that transforms into a mission 2 save people from randomly rampaging decepticons then wen u climb out it will cut 2 ur character lying on a bed 2 show that it was just a dream and therefor it could still uphold gta hardout-ness and be the best game (and u have to kill the master chief because he is annoying)
