Assassin's Creed Day Blog

We fly to Australia and play the game!

Thanks to Ubisoft NZGamer.com was flown up to Sydney Australia for a mini press-conference for Assassin's Creed. There we got to meet Patrice Desilets, creative director for the game and catch some game-time with the title. Here's our day-blog of the event.

3:00AM
My alarm goes off to wake me up. This may come as a shock to you so it's a good thing you're probably sitting down... The world actually exists at this time.
Scary, I know.

3:23AM
I get out of bed and Walk past my Wii to find it glowing - checking out what was up I see the Metroid Prime 3 Preview Channel has gone live. Better yet, Super Metroid has been added to the virtual console library. A good start to the day/early morning.

4:30AM
Taxi arrives to pick me up for the airport, after getting there I check in and have to wait for a couple of hours before boarding. Thank god for the Nintendo DS (and Phantom Hourglass, praise be!).

7:02AM
We start our 3.5 hour flight. Hourglass comes to the rescue yet again, I also watch most of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix which is an awful movie bar the showdown near the end. By the way, did you hear that Dumbledore is gay. Because he is.

7:35AM
Timezones try to tell me that 3.5 hours was actually 30 minutes.

8:00AM
Sydney is hot, too hot, 25 degrees approaching 35 in a few hours I hear. Not good. The taxis air conditioning is pathetic too. Joyous occassion!

8:30AM
Am beginning two hours of doing nothing in as much shade as possible outside the Maritime Museum where the event is being held.

10:10AM
I'm let in early and given Assassin's swag - a silver embossed box with a Assassin's Creed press booklet and CD, a white feather and red ink. Nice.

10:29AM
After snacking on muffins and drinking some hard stuff (orange juice) we're let into the theatre.

10:35AM
We're in and the Marketing Manager for Ubisoft for Australasia introduces himself and Patrice, creative director for Assassin's Creed. Patrice takes to the stage and begins his demonstration on the theatre screen.

After the routine demonstration Patrice begins to play around in Jerusalem proving his statement that Assassin's Creed is not just a game but a toy as well. Doing all the storyline missions will take one about 18-25 hours to complete, but this doesn't take into consideration all the time in between you'll be messing around having fun. Spider-man has a lot to learn from Altair when it comes to jumping around a city.

11:45AM
The presentation is wrapped up but NZGamer.com is invited for a special interview with Patrice at 1:30PM at Ubisoft Australia HQ.

12:00PM
The heat is insufferable. I make my way into a mall and feast on Japanese food.

12:45PM
I'm quite a punctual person so I leave for Ubisoft HQ on foot, unfortunately it's not as close as I was told, to make things worse the shoes I'm wearing are new, thus causing much discomfort. I take 'em off for a moments relief to find my left foot saturated in blood. The things I do to play video games.

1:15PM
I manage to get there early and chill out under some sweet air conditioning in the lobby while Patrice gets ready. A few minutes later and we're in the games room playing Assassin's Creed on a 50" HDTV - it's look beautiful. Our interview begins and I ask questions from our competition as well as our own (to find out if your question was asked you'll have to wait until Saturday 12:00PM). I was also able to wrangle some interesting and exclusive information...

My time with Assassin's is far too short but I've seen enough to want to be playing this the day its released.

1:50PM
So my time is over, check in is in two hours, Sydney is 35 degrees now and not fun. Mission: catch a taxi to the airport and find some air conditioning. Flee this ridiculously hot country.

2:40PM
Time to hit up Zelda again. I finish the game and play through the final boss battles a couple more times. Metroid in the morning, Assassin's during the day, and Zelda to round it off. A good day for gaming.

6:25PM
On the plane and back home. Cannot wait for that Wellingon wind. Evan Almighty is showing, it's decidedly average but passes the time. Does anyone know what the point was of all the animals getting on the boat? I mean, disaster didn't strike.

1:40AM
At home now, in an hours time I'll be in bed asleep. And so ends my 24 hour day with Assassin's Creed.

Look forward to an Assassin's Creed interview, hands-on preview, a Little Dudes web-comic, and more! The best way to be kept up to date is to add Assassin's Creed to your myNZGamer wishlist by clicking here for Xbox 360 or here for PS3.
