AT A GLANCE
| The Good: A harmless football videogame | "NFL Street 3 takes the sport to new extremes." |
| The Bad: Real football back injuries | |
| The Ugly: Getting a football stuck in your mouth |
EA is back with what could be the last NFL Street title for the PS2. In keeping with EA’s street franchise, NFL Street trades a football field and near-naked cheerleaders for graffiti-tagged streets. NFL Street is an EA Big title, and needless to say, it takes the sport to new extremes.
The PS2 version will add new features to the game, including the respect system. When you earn the respect of your peers, you will get to get to set the options of the game. Respect can be earned by unlocking mini-games, new events, and dominating the football games.
To aid in earning respect, some new gameplay features are being introduced. You will be able to perform flying tackles and other aerial moves by launching yourself from the top of foreign objects.
Only half the game will be played on the ground; this is something that will require you to take it to the extreme, with moves that would earn a normal football player a suspension, and probably jail term.
How EA Big balance the over-the-top action associated with their sports titles and football mechanics will be interesting. It may make this appeal to people who have no interest in football at all.
