Another day, another Singstar. That’s what it feels like, anyway – we’re now onto the 7th iteration of this popular series, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. After the hugely disappointing mess that was Singstar Anthems, Sony are looking to bounce back with Legends – and judging by the tracklist, it looks like they’ll succeed in a big way.
Basically, this is looking like the greatest lineup yet, at least for someone like me, who appreciates everything from David Bowie to Aretha Franklin. Unlike other entries into the series, there’s a minimum of ‘filler’ tracks (Erik B. and Rakim, I’m looking at you) – nearly every song on this list could be called a classic. Actually, I’m surprised there aren’t more recent hits – sure, there are songs like ‘Vertigo’, but most of the numbers are at least a couple of decades old. The only thing that’s annoying is that the U.K. version of Legends gets the Rolling Stones’ ‘Sympathy for the Devil’, and we’re saddled with two Jimmy Barnes songs.
As always, the song lineup is the only thing that matters. Singstar fans have had a long time to get used to the lack of new features in each subsequent sequel, and it doesn’t look like this situation is changing any time soon. This is a shame, but it’s hardly surprising – why change a formula that works so well? If you like what you see below, don’t hesitate to pick this game up. And if you don’t see anything that tickles your fancy... what on earth is wrong with you?
