Morgan dives in and pulls out some mail for the first issue of NZGamer Mailbag, care to read our mail?
Welcome to the first issue of NZGamer mailbag, the new monthly feature in which you, the reader, can write in and have your opinion heard on the current happenings in the gaming world.
FFXII
When is Final Fantasy XII being released in New Zealand? - Jasmine
Morgan Says: Unfortunately there is no solid New Zealand release date for Final Fantasy XII, or even a US release for that matter. At this point we can only guess a NZ release in 2006, however, much more information should be spilled concerning the release date at this years E3 on May 18-20th.
Great Idea
Well it's great to see this idea in action, the spiffy new button looks a great addition to the site.
Also it's great that you finally got some info on Dirge of Cerberus. Because I've being trying to follow the production of this for a while off of mostly un-reliable websites, monkeys are everywhere. Also a request, for more info on Advent Children's release date as it come in. - Sonic
Morgan Says: We will see what we can do about info on Advent Children's release date, late 05/early 06 would be a fair estimate, but again, checking out E3 news would be your best bet. You can check out the official Advent Children website here.
Monkey's Owner
While I was browsing the interweb and casually jogging through your fine institute of a website, I came across something that truely shocked me to my caramel filled center.
I saw that the fabulous Commrade Daniel Ohs had given up his position at NZGamer, and that as such the Rumour Monkey would not be written by him!! Immediately I brainstormed some ideas to kidnap the bastard and force him by gunpoint to write more and more articles. But then I thought no, he has so many people that love him... that would just be cruel. I mean who would feed his dog?
So I must ask, what fine fellow is writing the Rumour Monkey now that it's founder is gone?
(P.S. Communism can work, Jesus told me so) - Mr. Gerald Kruschev
Morgan Says: Daniel Needham has taken control of the Rumour Monkey's stash of bananas and will continue Dan Ohs rumour column. As for Communism, well jesus - if that is his real name - is wrong, Capitalism is always best.
Playboy Bunnies
Hi, I recently read through Emily's article entitled 'PlaySims: The Mansion' and Daniel's review of Playboy: The Mansion, and can't help but notice that both these articles point out how the game seems to be a copy of The Sims.
So my question is, do you think that games these days lack originality? Are we simply seeing a whole lot of clones of games which never seem to be better than the original? - Robert Short
Morgan Says: Yes. There is a tendency among many developers to clone past successes like Half Life and Doom. There are a few reasons developers would do this, a couple of good reasons are: They know that making a type of game the casual gamers are already familiar with, it will have more wide spread appeal, as opposed to something completely original which may not sell as well as the next Half Life or Mario title. The problem is developers are giving gamers what they want, not what they need for the sake of an extra million or so sales.
Emily
I'd just like to say congrats on having Emily on the team! It's good to hear about gaming from a girl, I really enjoyed the column on the Playboy Mansion too!! Keep it up - Dom
Emily Says: Thanks for your message! It's always nice to know people are enjoying our writing. It's been heaps of fun joining NZGamer. I hope you continue to enjoy the articles we put up.
DS Drought
When and what is the next lot of DS games to hit NZ shores. No wait... Where are they? - Lewis
Damon Says: Hey Lewis! There isn't a "lot" coming, for the most part there are releases scattered all over the next few months with the final quarter looking to be really busy just in time for the PSP. This Friday sees Star Wars - Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and the likes of Bomberman, Pac-Pix, Splinter Cell 3 and Metroid Prime: Hunters (fingers crossed for this one) should touch down on your DS within the next few months. As always keep tuned into the weekly "What's New?" and we'll keep you up to date!
