The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Published Sunday 2 Dec 2007 5:54pm | Nintendo WiiThe Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess It's been only three year's since the last true Zelda game, and many people have been questionable about the Zelda series. Since Ocarina of Time, a good portion of fans have been crying for a true sequel. Majora's Mask tried a 3-day concept, and some found it too complex, or just makes it more of a chore then fun. The Wind Waker went with a whole new art style, causing many fans to split. I believe the Twilight Princess is the most true to Ocarina of Time.
As many of the Zelda games, you are a farm boy which is named after your file name, but usually dubbed as 'Link'. You were going to send a package to the Hyrule Castle, but a friend of yours, Ilia, has taken away your Horse (Epona) due to Epona's injury. As you meet up with Ilia to get back your horse, but a group of beast riding on horses took Ilia and friends, and left you knocked out.
You woke up, and searched for the beasts. You ran to a black wall with was never there before, then a black hand came out to pull you in. You are now in a darker version of the world you knew, and became a wolf which is usually called 'the blue-eye beast'.
Waking up in a jail cell, you meet an interesting character named Midna. She sets you free and you'll soon meet Princess Zelda. You learn that a dark leader from the Twilight realm called Zant came up to Zelda and took her throne.
I think I should explain Midna a bit better to you. She is your little helper which give you hints, brings you to places, and has a major part in the story. In the end, she plays as a good replacement to Navi. Most of the game, you are doing he favours, and getting all the items she requested.
Twilight Princess is as good looking as a Gamecube game, and almost no difference between the Wii and Gamecube version other then the Wii version is a mirrored version of the Gamecube. Needless to say, the graphics is still pretty darn good. You would hit a nasty texture here and there, but it still has the best art direction I seen in any game to date.
Think of Ocarina of Time... then added the ability to transform into a wolf, make the world bigger, and throw in some new items, then you'll make Twilight Princess. I maybe generalizing a bit, but you'll feel like this is a updated version of Ocarina of Time. Since Ocarina of Time is consider to be the best game of all times to many people, it ain't so bad being the same.
Hyrule is much bigger, and it could take while from walking end to end, but the wide open fields of Hyrule field isn't a pain to travel across. Even without Epona. You can't visit anyway you want as soon as you might like to, buy the time you visit all the places of Hyrule, you pretty much beaten the game, making the game a little bit linear, but I personally like that, and feel less lost. But once you visit all the places, you could go to any of the old places to check out for need items, mini-games, etc.
You get most of the classic tools such as the Master Sword, Bow, Boomerang, Hookshot (now known as Clawshot), etc. Unfortunely there is no Ocarina the closes you would come to Ocarina is the wolf howling. This would only come when you learn a new ability. But You'll come across some new weapons, and some interesting level design to make the old tools feel new again. But the biggest new concept is being a wolf. You don't get to use your other weapons, but Wolf Link has some tricks up his sleeves. You could jump to places with the assistance of Midna, travel through portals to get across Hyrule faster, attack multiple enemies at once, and has a bite of a shark. For most of the game, you don't get to choose to become Link, or Wolf Link. This may disappointment some people, but they didn't went over board with the wolf parts, so it isn't a pain.
I wish the music was better. We have some classics tunes that we all know and love, but much of it sounds midi, and some are horrible such as the techno music you hear while fighting twilight beasts.
Controls are very Interesting. You wiggle the Wiimote or Nunchuk to swing the sword, and point the Wiimote at the screen to aim the Bow. This may seem strange at first, but trust me, you never want to go back. You might want to turn off the Wiimote Speaker because it sounds bad, and you'll hate it... fast.
In the game is a fairly long adventure. Most people say that it takes about 40-60 hours. I take their word, but I was able to beat the game within 35 hours, and I bet a better player, or a guide user could beat it less then 30 hours. But the game is full of mini-games, and the fishing game you could play for hours. The game is which I consider the be one of the best Zelda games ever, and the formula doesn't feel old yet. Nintendo said that this is going to be the last of Zelda of this style, but it ended with a BANG!!!
