Ubisoft has today unveiled the trailer for the next instalment in the hugely popular Splinter Cell series, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

The United States has a military presence in two thirds of countries around the world. A group of 12 have had enough and initiate a terror ultimatum called the Blacklist - a deadly countdown of escalating terrorist attacks on U.S. interests.

Sam Fisher is the leader of the newly formed 4th Echelon unit: a clandestine unit that answers solely to the President of the United States. Sam and his team must hunt down these terrorists by any means necessary, and stop the Blacklist countdown before it reaches zero.

Splinter Cell Blacklist innovates from the roots of the franchise, and players can enjoy a series of twists on franchise favorites including reinvented classic weapons. Infiltrate terrorist cells by using new gadgets such as the upgraded snake cam and micro-trirotor drone which allows Sam to scout ahead, mark targets remotely, distract enemies, or explode with frag grenade force.Splinter Cell Blacklist is also bringing back fan-favorites like the sticky shocker, and for close quarters combat, players can wield the curved and brutal Karambit knife.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is due for release in 2013 on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

This was one of the best games shown at E3 so far IMO. Looks like a fast paced MGS.

Looks awesome.

I noticed (and was a bit sad) that i didn't hear the unmistakable Michael Ironside voicing the Sam Fisher in the trailer.

Michael Ironside won't be voicing Sam Fisher this time, it will be Eric Johnson.

I still haven't decided if I want to get this or not. I love the Splinter Cell franchise but replacing Michael Ironside (instead of creating a new character for Eric Johnson) was a low blow.

Would have been nice to see what the gameplay would be like, & Kinect? I'm assuming it's just gonna be something stupid like restricting voice commands to Kinect only instead of utilizing the headset (which FYI MS is sorta what they were invented for)

Very disappointing no Michael Ironside. He is Sam Fisher. This new guys voice sounds boring and too young to be Fisher. The rest looks good though.

I was hoping for a return to the style and gameplay of Chaos Theory, I did not enjoy Conviction at all. It was such a departure from the other entries it might as well have been a new franchise. I guess stealth games just don't bring in the money like heavy action games do. Even Hitman: Absolution is heading down this path.

Wow, how many games do they have to bring out that are the same? I'm not saying that this doesn't look really awesome, but if you buy this, surely you won't need to buy COD?
