Ubisoft have launched a social media campaign, aimed at generating nearly 1.8 Million posts, tweets, and shares about Assassin's Creed III. Once that mark is reached, it will unlock the first gameplay video of the new game, which is expected to release in the Christmas shopping season this year.

I did this, not because of the series, but because I'm interested in seeing what this experiment is like. It shall be very interesting I believe...

BioWare/EA did a similar thing for ME3 I think? Enough shares etc of something on Facebook and they would post a trailer/teaser images of the game. It seemed to work pretty well for them - and they also started up the @AllianceNewsNet twitter and the #solcomms tag which also was really effective in the lead-up to the release

The 'bonus art/footage/info/etc if this gets x shares' is becoming a more common tactic. Not sure what I think of it. In this case it seems a bit of a cheap way to generate buzz; I'll share/like something if it impresses me, not just because I'm told to, thank you very much.
