MMO, as many of you will know, stands for Massively Multiplayer Online. A popular example of this type of game is World of Warcraft (WoW). Some MMOs are FPSs, while some MMOs are RPGs. Some MMOs don’t fit in either category. WoW, back to our original example, is an RPG. OMG, LOL! Look at all of those acronyms! ROTFLMAO! Fury (not an acronym, just a word) is an upcoming MMO with FPS and RPG elements, combining to make what the developers and fans of the genre hope will be a head turner in the quickly developing MMO universe.
Like all MMOs the promise holds that the player will live another more spectacular life online through their PC and all its flashy components. In Fury your highly customisable character will practice one of four schools of magic, and take it to opponents controlled by likeminded individuals the world over. There will be the opportunity to join various servers, and you’ll operate with the other members of that server throughout your time playing the game. The fact that the game involves magic, and that the skill you show in use of this magic pushes your character up through the ranks, gives the game an RPG-ish feel. However, Fury allows players to gain rank only against other players: unlike a game like WoW, only constant player vs. player battling (and winning) will help you progress.
Whether the ‘Massively’ in MMO comes from the sheer amount of features developers pack into this game, the number of people they get playing or the size of the virtual worlds is debatable. What’s for sure is that where Fury is concerned there is going to be a gargantuan amount of spells and options for making your character a faster, better, more attractive you. The ranks apply to your character overall, as well as the individual abilities he or she develops as the game progresses. Naturally, the game is item rich too, and post-battle spoils will see you amassing great heaps of booty and cash.
What? Oh yes. The whole FPS thing. The guts of Fury are the battle arenas in which you pit your avatar and nimble fingers and wrists against others in FPS combat. These are attached to the usual FPS styles we know and love – capture the flag, free-for-all, etc. The screenshots about the place hint at some nice visuals if your machine is muscled up to handle them, and if being wrapped up in a prettily-rendered world of magic and violence is how you like to spend your days, then keep your eyes skinned for this one.
