The chances are that when you see CivCity you’re going to think of some kind of bastard offspring of Sim City and Civilization: and you’d be right. However, while Civilization creators Firaxis are lending their talents to the project, Maxis are not involved. Instead, developers FireFly, famous for their Stronghold games, look set to expand their repertoire.

The game, for all intents and purposes, combines the best of Sim City and Civilization. Instead of controlling many cities, like you do in Civilization, you will be in control of simply one: Rome. The challenge will be to create a self-supporting city that meets all the needs of the population.

However, the game will also allow you to explore new technologies, just like you could in Civilization, in an effort to create a better society for everyone. Yes, the hippies are wrong; progress rocks! There will also be a focus on building wonders of the world, just to attract the tourists years after your civilization succumbs to the Goths.

Additionally, history classes can look set to use CivCity: Rome as an excuse to play video games in class. The game promises to contain an encyclopedia with a plethora of facts about the Roman civilization: nice.
With two established software developers behind this project, CivCity: Rome looks set to be an instant classic.

If God-sims (or whatever the devil they're called these days) are your thing, make sure you keep a look out for NZGamer’s full review in the future.
