I believe "clocking" stems from old score based games which have limited digits.
eg. you're on 9999, score 1 point and it resets to 0000 again.
like a clock cycles from 23:59 to 00:00.

I don't call it clocking...Because that just sounds so cliche. I usually say "Maxed" when I'm referring to achievements, or if it's just finishing the story line I'll just say finished.

lol was talking to Shaun today and he asked me about the clocking thing as I'm quite retro. He looked a little disappointed when I said it's when the score reset.
First game I clocked was Donkey Kong game and watch.

Clocking is very old terminology (80s).
Where I came from it just meant to finish a game.

Clocking is the way I always put finishing a game. Until one day I was questioning words. I thought about it, and in the old days of gaming, before score counting was decent, people used to time themselves, as another reason to brag/be dominant.

Aw, Lucy, I love your avatar too! I was unaccountably stoked that the glasses my avatar wears are EXACTLY the same as the ones the real me wears. It's the little things.
Also, Tristan, dear, if I finish FF12 and you get rid of the PS2 you will summarily a) not be able to play PS2 SingStars anymore, and b) completely bust up the pleasing symmetry of the PS1, 2 and 3 under the television.
