Battlefield: Bad Company
Published Friday 11 Jul 2008 5:01pm | Xbox 360I really wish that this game had come out before COD4. Really, really. It would have been brilliant and ground breaking. Unfortunately, it did not come out then and as such looks fairly average when compared to the war masterpiece from Infinity Ward.
After having played right through the game I am willing to allow that it is clever and plays well...for the most part. There are some problems that would have made the experience far more enjoyable. The Frostbite engine is brilliant with the destruction and the buildings blowing up. But answer me this; I can blow up a stone wall with a glancing hit with grenade launcher. Why can't i shoot someone who is standing behind a ply wood wall? Are they rubber bullets? Speaking of the power of bullets I must congratulate Russia on having made the world's most effective body armor. I shot a guy with a .50 caliber sniper rifle in the chest. The guy didn't go down. These men are wearing Iron Man armor. it's the only explanation.
Thats not a huge concern to me as the explosions are the most fun. What was an annoyance though was the sound inside houses. The houses in Europe and the Middle East must be the most echo-y places in the world. Every time a gun would go off or someone spoke it was like I was in the Waitomo caves. It got old very quickly.
Because of my lack of a router I can't play online. This may hinder my view of the total game because I can sense that this would be tonnes of fun online. It would be frantic and brilliant and very intense with buildings blowing up all around you.
Overall it is an inherently fun game that unfortunately could have used a bit more time is some areas.
