Sonic the Hedgehog fans can look forward to a new feature film due out in 2018, with Sega confirming in an interview with The World Folio that it's currently in planning with Sony Pictures.
"Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid 'Sonic the Hedgehog' movie scheduled for release in 2018," said Sega Sammy's president and CEO, Hajime Satomi. "Like with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved."
Satomi didn't share any other specifics about the film, but he did say that Sega Sammy's "key word and main focus is and remains entertainment." Beyond gaming and film, this includes such things as indoor theme parks, like the Sega Joypolis chain, and animations like Lupin the 3rd and Anpanman.
