Fallout 4 Patch to Land, Gameplay Bugs in Its Crosshairs

While the previous patch for Fallout 4 mostly tackled technical issues – like bugs that locked players in place, or a framerate that dipped into the single-digit ranges – developer Bethesda have announced a new one that looks to add some visual features for PC players, and fix some systems that have been broken since launch.

Here are some of the features in the works for update 1.3:

  • New ambient occlusion setting, HBAO+
  • New weapon debris effects (Nvidia cards only)
  • Added status menu for settlers in your settlements
  • General memory and stability improvements
  • Improved performance when looking through a scope
  • MacReady's Killshot perk now calculates headshot percentages properly
  • Fixed issue with player becoming dismembered while still alive
  • Improvements to snapping pieces together while in Workshop mode
  • Player can now build workbenches in their Diamond City house
  • Building wires no longer uses up copper
  • Fixed an issue with settlement happiness calculations

The patch is available to PC owners in a beta format. You can activate the beta by right clicking Fallout 4 in your Steam library, hitting “Settings”, and by opting into it via the “Betas” option.

Fallout 4 released last year to critical acclaim across multiple outlets, even though the majority agreed that it was largely similar to its predecessor. In our review we applauded its open-world storytelling, but disliked the game’s new settlement aspect.

A status menu for settlers? Brilliant idea! Someone's been playing some Fallout Shelter? I hope unassigned settlers have the status "Coffee break"! :-)
