With the help of the Destiny community, Bungie has so far managed to raise over $400,000 USD (roughly $538,000 NZD) to support disaster relief efforts in Nepal, following a major earthquake that hit the country last month.
The magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Nepal on April 25, killing 7000 people, injuring twice as many, and causing widespread damage that left thousands of people homeless and destroyed some centuries-old UNESCO World Heritage sites. It was the most powerful disaster in Nepal since the 1934 Nepal-Bihar earthquake.
To assist with the relief effort, Bungie released a limited edition Nepal Aid T-Shirt on the Bungie Store, with all proceeds (at least $15 USD per shirt) going to Direct Relief. Each shirt costs $24.99 USD ($33.55 NZD), and comes with an exclusive shader and emblem for Destiny. Pre-orders are open until May 24, with the shirts due to ship in early June and the in-game items to come later in 2015.
As well as proceeds from the shirts themselves, the Bungie Foundation will be adding an extra $15 per shirt sold between now and 6.59pm on May 14 (NZST), up to a maximum of $50,000.
