Destiny, Super Smash Bros. Big Winners in September

Destiny, PlayStation, Super Smash Bros., and the Nintendo 3DS all had a good month in September, according the latest sales figures from NPD Group and platform holders Sony and Nintendo.

NPD's report, which covers retail sales only and doesn't include software included in console bundles, found that Destiny was the month's bestselling game, and was most popular on Xbox One. It was followed by Madden NFL 15, FIFA 15, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, NHL 15, Minecraft, The Sims 4, Disney Infinity 2.0, and Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls.

Although NPD's figures show that Destiny was more popular on Xbox One, this doesn't include those sold as part of PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 console bundles or digital sales. Sony did not provide any sales numbers, but said that Destiny helped make September the biggest month for PlayStation Network and that Destiny is currently the most-played PlayStation 4 game.

A statement from Nintendo says that Super Smash Bros. has been responsible for a jump in 3DS system sales, with a month-to-month 55% increase to 140,000 units moved in September. The game itself sold 705,000 in the United States during its first two days on sale, 135,000 of which were from the Nintendo eShop.

NPD needs to update its data gathering practices. The majority of the games I buy now are digital and with EA Access I get 10% off digital purchases off EA games, but if they include American digital sales I wonder if that would also include all the people around the world downloading from the U.S. Marketplace is search for bargains,

Numbers mean nothing if it doesn't include digital or included bundle figures. Thats likely a pretty large chunk.

To me that just reads as people are really wanting a great multiplayer game to play and for now Destiny is filling that gap as although not great it is a little different from what's been available to date. I'm picking in 2 - 3 months Destiny's reign will be over and done with. This coming from someone who is playing it for 3 - 8 hours a day (should really say night since I normally don't play until after 9pm).

These figures are worthless - Needs to cover all forms of purchase otherwise you cannot see the whole picture. They can say Destiny was the biggest but by how much??
