The Witcher 3 on Xbox One Gets Exclusive Collector's Items

While developer CD Projekt Red remains committed to their promise of not having platform- or retailer-exclusive DLC in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, that has not extended to physical items in the Collector's Editions, with Xbox One getting a few extra unique collectibles.

All Collector's Editions will come with an artbook, statue, paper map, soundtrack CD, steelbook case, medallion, and collector's box. However, the Xbox One Collector's Edition also includes a cloth map and two decks of Gwent cards based on a mini-game in The Witcher 3, which aren't available on other platforms.

CD Project Red has responded to concerns from fans about the Xbox One exclusives, saying that they do not believe it breaches their promise to deliver the same game experience on each platform, as it is limited to physical bonuses.

"Don't get me wrong, I do understand that these extra items might be desirable for Witcher fans playing the game on other platforms. However, as we are not offering any platform or retail exclusive DLCs or any other form of gameplay differentiation, we do have to find other ways to support our partners. We are also providing special pre-order items for certain retailers around the world, including Witcher comic books, posters, steel books or medallions. Funnily enough, we did not notice any heated comments on the pre-order specials," said the developer's Marcin Iwiński in a statement sent to Eurogamer.

"What is the reason? Why are we doing this? We need the support of partners to make our game visible worldwide. This should hopefully translate to better sales, which will in consequence allow us to do what we have been doing for the last 10 years, i.e. reinvest this money to make more great RPGs, while still sticking to our values."

The Witcher 3 is being developed for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, and is due for release in February next year.

While not perfect, I prefer this to the in game digital exclusives that are becoming synonymous with the new gen

I can see the hardcore fans on PS buying the XB1 version and then trading the game to get their PS4 copy. Or striking a deal with a XB1 mate who only wants the regular copy.

This won't effect me as I probably just getting the standard edition. In game exclusive content sucks.

I'd prefer this exclusive rather than not being able to access content

All I'd want is the epic statue. All other nic naks and in-game bits are meh. Not just this but all Collectors Editions for any game
I have to say though that CD do make really nice Collectors Editions. If I was to get one from any dev, it would be from CD..

I actual prefer the opposite by far. They can include as many pointless digital knick knacks in various versions of the game as they want as these usually don't amount to much more than bling or a few extra minutes of gameplay. But you start messing with cloth maps and you're treading into dangerous territory! Where will it end?!?

Not that huge of an issue, exclusive contents are nice but doesn't affect the actual game
