An photo of a poster with Mortal Kombat's dragon logo, the words "Who's next?", and what appear to be the broken bones of a spine, has surfaced online, leading to speculation that an upcoming announcement being teased by Netherrealm's Ed Boon will be a new game in the fighting game series.
The image first appeared on Reddit, with the caption "Yes! Must mean an announcement is soon..." Meanwhile, Boon has updated his Twitter profile image to the same dragon logo from the poster, and the header image from his main profile now has the same "Who's next?" text, in the same font.
Boon has been posting cryptic tweets with references to numbers on a daily basis, counting down to what is expected to be some sort of announcement on June 3. On May 5th, he tweeted "Square root of 841," which is 29, followed by "Question: How many days in (non-leap-year) February?" on May 6th (the answer being 28), and a Simpsons clip focusing on the number 27 on May 7th. These tweets have continued all month; most recently, he said "Square root of 324," which is 18, before saying "Just kidding! #highfive" with a high fiving clip from Seinfeld attached.
On May 19th, Boon tweeted an image of the bumper of a Lincoln MKX, saying "I wonder what the X stands for?" This led to speculation that the announcement being teased is a new Mortal Kombat game, which would be the tenth in the series.
