The Last of Us Movie Will Adapt the Game's Story

Neil Druckmann, creator of The Last of Us, has confirmed that a movie based on the game will be an adaptation or the original story.

"It’s an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us," Druckmann told IGN at yesterday's BAFTA Game Awards 2014. "As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film... We’re not sure yet. We’re only just scratching the surface."

Rumours of a Last of Us movie first surfaced in December, when Sony trademarked two domain names pertaining to the film. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that the film was being made, with Sam Raimi among its producers, Druckmann writing the script, and Screen Gems to distribute it. Troy Baker, the voice of Joel in the game, has said that he would be interested in reprising that role for the film.

Ashley Johnson voiced and mo-capped for Ellie in the game. Ellen Page is almost 28 now.....I wonder if she would be believable as 14 year old, even though she is basically a midget...

I'm always on the fence with these... too close to the source material (which they never really are), and the movie is too predictable... too far away from the source material and it becomes so loosely based, it's not funny...

The best game movie IMO for not straying too far, but not being overly cheesy by throwing in cameos of every fighter in the game, was the first Mortal Kombat... (sequel was crap) ... But then, the game was basically a game of Enter The Dragon anyway...

Please don't screw this up... The game already gave a great map on how to tell the story.

Yeah I just don't see the point that intro into Last of Us was way more effective and immersive than the movie ever will do. And +1 for Mortal Kombat.

We should remember though, not everyone in the world is a gamer. A movie mite not have the same impact to those who have played it, but how many people have actually played the game? TLoU has sold 4.5 Million copies at retail, worldwide. If you then add those who have rented, borrowed it from a mate, piracy etc, you could maybe even double that number to around 9 million (super rough numbers off course) that have given it a play through. What ever the number, it'll be nowhere near the hundreds of millions of people all over the world who go to the cinema each week or buy a DVD, or download video from iTunes, or subscribe to an online movie streaming service, or Pay TV. Bringing a great story to a far larger audience would make Naughty Dog, Sony and all involved, a sh*t load of money, which has to be good for the gaming industry right?.....unless they screw the movie up.....which is possible....

It's actually sold 6 million now I believe. It's a cool story in a game but when it gets brought to the movies people will just say it's a ripoff of The Road. I could be proven wrong though.
