Releasing This Week (Resident Evil)

An interesting week this week, with some notable - if not marquee - releases to keep things fresh as March draws towards a close and our eyes start to turn towards the upcoming madness of E3.

So what's out this week?

Resident Evil fans will be looking forward, with baited breath perhaps, to the release of Operation Raccoon City. It's a new twist on the formula, shaking up the survival horror roots by reimagining the gameplay from a third-person shooter perspective. There are three factions at war, only one of which are of the Zombie affliction, and it's up to you to decide what happens to series-stalwart characters like Leon S. Kennedy. Are you up for it?

Another significant re-invention this week comes in the form of Armored Core V. The game is said to return to the tactical focus of the first two entries in the series, rather than the action-oriented playstyle of more recent Armored Core games, which is something fans of the franchise have been crying out for. Up for stomping around futuristic cities in 5-meter-tall mecha, engaging in tactical warfare with your pals? You'll get your chance this week.

There's also a new Total War game - Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai - which lets players strategically guide a feudal Japan through the Meiji Resotration, by way of the machine gun and advanced naval combat options. Conrad recently went hands-on with a preview build of the game, which is technically a stand-alone expansion of the original, and came out wanting to see more of this edgy revision to the formula. If you, too, are keen to see what it's all about, the game hits store shelves on Friday. Conrad, meanwhile, is hard at work reviewing the final game, so you can look forward to his final thoughts on the title soon.

Last, but not least - especially for those with a young family, a couple of games aimed at the younger generation are also releasing this week. In particular, the Microsoft / Disney-Pixar collaboration for Kinect-equipped Xbox 360s - Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure - looks interesting. The game ties together numerous titles from the hit-creating Disney Pixar team, resulting in numerous interactive experiences for kids to control by way of the all-seeing Kinect camera system. We're actually quite interested to see how this one turns out, so look for a review of it soon.
